Miss You (1929 Song)
"Miss You" is a 1929 song by the Tobias brothers: Charles Tobias, Harry Tobias and Henry Tobias. It was the three brothers' first published song, and their first hit, but one of the few songs where all three collaborated. The song was revived for the 1942 film '' Strictly in the Groove'' when it was sung by The Dinning Sisters and played by Ozzie Nelson and Orchestra. Recordings The topical sentiment of the song during World War II produced several hit recordings of the song in 1942. *Dinah Shore's version reached No. 8 in the Billboard charts in 1942, and others to chart that year were Bing Crosby (#9) (recorded January 24, 1942), Eddy Howard (#21) and Freddy Martin (#22). Charles Tobias
Charles Tobias (August 15, 1898 – July 7, 1970) was an American songwriter. Biography Born in New York City, United States, Tobias grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts with brothers Harry Tobias and Henry Tobias, also songwriters. He started his musical career in vaudeville. In 1923, he founded his own music publishing firm and worked on Tin Pan Alley. Tobias referred to himself as "the boy who writes the songs you sing." His credits include "Merrily We Roll Along," "Rose O'Day," "Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer," "Comes Love," and " Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree (With Anyone Else but Me)." With frequent collaborators Al Sherman and Howard Johnson he wrote, " Dew-Dew-Dewey Day". In the 1930s, Tobias and several of his fellow hit makers formed a revue called " Songwriters on Parade," performing across the Eastern seaboard on the Loew's and Keith circuits. Beryl Davis
Beryl Davis (16 March 1924 – 28 October 2011) was a vocalist who sang with British and American big bands, as well as being an occasional featured vocalist at a very young age with the Quintette du Hot Club de France between 1936 and 1939. She was still performing (in her 80s) into the 2000s, possibly the last surviving and performing singer of the generation of popular entertainers from the 1930s and wartime years. ''Rockin' the Oldies'' was the fifth album of rock and roll music by Bill Haley and His Comets. Produced by Milt Gabler, the album was released by Decca Records in 1957. It was the first of three "themed albums" that Haley recorded for Decca. On this occasion the album consisted of re-recordings of popular standards, some dating back 30 years or more, but rearranged in a rock and roll style. For example, Haley's version of Larry Clinton's "The Dipsy Doodle" included new lyrics referring to Haley's past hits, "Shake, Rattle and Roll" and "See You Later Alligator". The album did not produce any hit singles. The recording sessions that produced this album are notable for not including Haley's usual saxophone player, Rudy Pompilli. Flanagan and Allen were a British singing and comedy double act most active during the 1930s and 1940s. Its members were Bud Flanagan (1896 – 1968, born Chaim Weintrop) and Chesney Allen (1894–1982). They were first paired in a Florrie Forde revue, and were booked by Val Parnell to appear at the Holborn Empire in 1929. Career As music hall comedians, they would often feature a mixture of comedy and music in their act; this led to a successful recording career as a duo and roles in film and television. Gerald Walcan Bright (10 August 1904 – 4 May 1974), better known as Geraldo, was an English bandleader. He adopted the name "Geraldo" in 1930, and became one of the most popular British dance band leaders of the 1930s with his "sweet music" and his "Gaucho Tango Orchestra".
