Miss World 1971
Miss World 1971, the 21st edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 10 November 1971 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK. 56 contestants competed for the Miss World and Lúcia Petterle from Brazil won the crown of Miss World 1971. She was crowned by Miss World 1970, Jennifer Hosten of Grenada. Although Petterle completed her reign as Miss World, she fell and broke her arm in the final month of her year and was unable to travel to London to participate in the Miss World 1972 contest. Dr. Vera Lúcia Tavares Petterle (born October 31, 1949) is a Brazilian doctor and beauty queen who won Miss World 1971. Today she continues with her charity work helping underprivileged children in her free time by giving medical needs and care to them. Biography Lúcia Tavares Petterle was born in Rio de Janeiro, October 31, 1949. She spent her teenage years in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, where her father served in the military. Zlata Petković ( sr-Cyrl, Злата Петковић; 11 February 1954 – 3 December 2012) was a Serbian actress, model, television host and singer. She was Miss Yugoslavia 1971 and is best known for her role as Marija in the 1970s Yugoslav television series ''Povratak otpisanih''. Early life Zlata Petković was the daughter of Borislav and Milica. Jennifer Hosten (born 31 October 1947) is a Grenadian radio announcer, development worker, diplomat, author, model and beauty queen who won the Miss World 1970 contest, representing Grenada. She became the first black woman and the first woman from her country to win the title. The whole contest had been controversial even before the result had been announced.
