Miss Universe 1998, the 47th Miss Universe pageant, was held on May 12, 1998 at the Stan Sheriff Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii. Wendy Fitzwilliam of Trinidad and Tobago was crowned by Brook Lee of the US at the end of the event. This marked the only second (and most recent) time that Trinidad and Tobago has won Miss Universe. 81 contestants competed in this year. Wendy Fitzwilliam
Wendy Marcelle Fitzwilliam (born 4 October 1972) is a Trinidadian lawyer, actress, model, singer, TV Host and beauty queen who won Miss Trinidad and Tobago Universe 1998 became the second Miss Universe in history from Trinidad and Tobago and was the third woman of African heritage to capture the Miss Universe crown. Early life Fitzwilliam has one sister. She grew up in Jade Gardens Diamond Vale, Diego Martin and attended Diego Martin Girls R.C before attending St. Joseph's Convent in Port of Spain, she also studied Law. Miss Universe Fitzwilliam modeled for local fashion designer Meiling in her teenage and early years. She won Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago. Brook Antoinette Mahealani Lee (born January 8, 1971) is an American former beauty queen who was crowned Miss Hawaii USA 1997, Miss USA 1997, and Miss Universe 1997. Lee is the first native Hawaiian to win the title of Miss Universe. Early life Lee was born on January 8, 1971, in Pearl City, Hawaii. She is of Chinese, Korean, Native Hawaiian, Portuguese, French, Dutch and English ancestry. Her Korean grandfather emigrated to Hawaii in the 1950s. Lee's mother, Toni, was president of Na Pua Ke Ali'i Pauahi, an alumni association of the school who petitioned the board for reforms. Lee attended University Lab School for one year (1987–88) and graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 1989. She is a graduate of Chaminade University.
