Miss Tanzania
Miss Tanzania is a national Beauty pageant in Tanzania. History Miss Tanzania started in the 1967 and the participants for the most part were from Dar es Salaam, the winners were however not sent to compete internationally. In 1968, the government banned beauty contests in the country after advice from the ruling political party's youth league citing it was not consistent with Tanzanian culture. In 1994 when beauty contests were allowed, the country had its first Miss Tanzania who competed in the Miss World. Tanzania ended its decade-long drought of shining in international beauty contests in Miss World 2005, when Nancy Sumari was among the top 6 finalists and also crowned Miss World Africa. A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. The term beauty pageant refers originally to the Big Four international beauty pageants. Pageant titles are subdivided into Miss, Mrs. or Ms., and Teen – to clearly identify the difference between pageant divisions. Hundreds and thousands of beauty contests are held annually, but the Big Four are considered the most prestigious, widely covered and broadcast by media. Beauty With A Purpose
Julia Evelyn Morley (née Pritchard; born 25 October 1939) is a British businesswoman, charity worker, and former model. She is the chairman and CEO of the Miss World Organization, which organizes the Miss World and Mister World. She is the widow of Miss World creator, the late Eric Morley who was in charge of organizing the pageant from its inception in 1951 until his death in 2000. Life and career Born in London, she worked as a model, and met Eric Morley, then a director of Mecca Dancing, at a dance hall in Leeds; the couple married in 1960. She became chairman of Miss World after her husband died in 2000. As chairman of Miss World, she introduced "Beauty With A Purpose", which raises money in support of sick and disadvantaged children. Richa Adhia
Richa Maria Adhia (born 1 May 1988) is a Tanzanian model and beauty pageant contestant who won Miss Earth Tanzania 2006, Miss Tanzania 2007 and Miss India Tanzania 2010. She is the 3rd generation of Indian/ Portuguese descent with family origins from Calangute, Goa who is born and brought up in Tanzania. She represented Tanzania in both Miss Earth 2006 in the Philippines and Miss World 2007 in China. So far, she remains the only Tanzanian beauty pageant contestant to have represented her country in both of the International contests. Miss World 2007
Miss World 2007, the 57th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 1 December 2007 at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China. It was hosted by Fernando Allende and Angela Chow. Zhang Zilin of China won the crown and succeeded Taťána Kuchařová of the Czech Republic. The 106 contestants recorded the official torch relay anthem Light the Passion, Share the Dream for the 2008 Olympic Games as a major co-operation between the Beijing Olympic Committee and Miss World Limited. Miss World 2008, the 58th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 13 December 2008 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.
