Miss Russia
Miss Russia () is a national beauty pageant in Russia. It selects the Russian representatives to compete in two of the major beauty pageants: Miss World and Miss Universe. History The pageant has been running since 1992; however, there was no Miss Russia 1994, 2000 or 2008. Since 2007, the winner of Miss Russia represents her country in both Miss World and Miss Universe. However, if she is unable to participate, a runner-up is sent instead. Russia has won three major international titles: Miss World 1992, Miss Universe 2002, although later dethroned, and Miss World 2008. It is estimated that every Miss Russia auditions, over 80,000-100,000 applicants are being processed annually. Alexandra Petrova
Alexandra Valeryevna Petrova (russian: Александра Валерьевна Петрова; 18 September 1980 – 16 September 2000) was a Russian model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Russia 1996. She later competed in Miss Universe 1999, where she was unplaced. Life and career Petrova was born in Cheboksary, Chuvash ASSR to parents Valery Petrov and Tatyana Petrova. At age fourteen, she began studying at the Cheboksary School of Modeling, and later began taking part in beauty pageants. Petrova represented the city of Cheboksary in the Miss Russia 1996 competition, held in Veliky Novgorod. She went on to win the competition, at only sixteen years old. During her reign, she was also crowned Miss Model International. After her reign as Miss Russia ended, she crowned Yelena Rogozhina as her successor. A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. The term beauty pageant refers originally to the Big Four international beauty pageants. Pageant titles are subdivided into Miss, Mrs. or Ms., and Teen – to clearly identify the difference between pageant divisions.
