Miss Oklahoma
The Miss Oklahoma competition selects a winner to compete on behalf of Oklahoma in the Miss America pageant. Miss Oklahoma has won the Miss America crown on five occasions. Also, in the years when city representatives were common, Norma Smallwood won, competing as Miss Tulsa, giving the state of Oklahoma a total of six crowns. Oklahoma is also one of three states to win back to back Miss America titles. Megan Gold of Edmond was crowned Miss Oklahoma 2022 on June 11, 2022 at the River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She represented Oklahoma and competed for the title of Miss America 2023 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut in December 2022. Kelsey Griswold
Kelsey Elizabeth Griswold, is an American pageant titleholder from Tulsa, Oklahoma who was named Miss Oklahoma 2013. Biography She won the title of Miss Oklahoma on June 8, 2013, when she received her crown from outgoing titleholder Alicia Clifton. Griswold's platform is promoting self-worth and acceptance among children during her year as Miss Oklahoma. Her competition talent was a vocal rendition of “Everybody Says Don't.” Kelsey was the second runner up to Miss America in 2014 and won the Swimsuit segment. Griswold is an honors graduate of Union High School (Tulsa, Oklahoma,); Graduate-BFA (cum laude), Oklahoma City University. Emoly Ann West (born January 6, 1986) is an American beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Oklahoma 2010 and was fourth runner-up in the Miss America 2011 Pageant on January 15, 2011, in Las Vegas, Nevada. West competed at Miss Oklahoma as Miss Edmond LibertyFest, and it was her fifth try for the title. She had previously been second runner-up to Miss Oklahoma 2009 and fourth runner-up to Miss Oklahoma 2008. At the time of her selection as Miss Oklahoma, West was a senior at the University of Central Oklahoma, majoring in Dance and minoring in Broadcast Journalism. Miss USA
Miss USA is an American beauty pageant that has been held annually since 1952 to select the entrant from United States in the Miss Universe pageant. The Miss Universe Organization operated both pageants, as well as Miss Teen USA, until 2020, when the organization announced it was licensing operation of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants to Crystle Stewart, Miss USA for 2008. The pageant was owned by Donald Trump from 1996 to 2015 and was previously broadcast on NBC. In September 2015, WME/IMG purchased the pageant from Trump. The Miss America 2022 competition was held on December 17, 2021. This was the 94th Miss America competition and was held at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, as the Miss America Organization celebrated its 100th anniversary. It was the first Miss America since 1954 that was not televised, but it was streamed on Peacock. There were several technical glitches within the stream throughout the show, causing many viewers to complain on social media about the production value. Miss America 2020, Camille Schrier of Virginia crowned her successor, Emma Broyles of Alaska, at the end of the event. The most frequently presented Miss America awards are for preliminary talent and swimsuit. The talent award was introduced in 1936, and the swimsuit award in 1940. In the 2000s, preliminary awards for evening gown and interview were briefly introduced but were discontinued after two years as it was felt that they made the semi-finalists too predictable. Other awards include Miss Congeniality, given out in the early years of the pageant and re-introduced at Miss America 2006, and the Quality of Life Award for a contestant's platform, first awarded in 1989. Louise O'Brien
Louise O'Brien (1928–2016) was an American vocalist. The 1950 Miss Oklahoma (and 4th runner-up in the subsequent Miss America pageant), she is best known for her many television performances on talk and variety shows of the 1950s and 1960s, most notably during the Jack Paar era of ''The Tonight Show''. Early life O'Brien was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Oklahoma State Penitentiary warden Edward Patrick O'Brien. Her earliest performances were for the inmates there. Jane Anne Jayroe-Gamble (born October 30, 1946) is a well known broadcaster, author and public official and former American beauty queen from Laverne, Oklahoma, who was Miss Oklahoma in 1966 and Miss America in 1967. Jayroe worked as an anchor in TV news in Oklahoma City and Dallas-Fort Worth broadcast media markets for 16 years. Miss America 2007, the 80th Miss America pageant, was held on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada on Monday, January 29, 2007, making it the first time that the pageant was held on a weekday, rather than the traditional Saturday since 1927's contest.
