The Miss República Dominicana 2005 was held on April 9, 2005. That year, only 46 candidates competed for the national crown. Five candidates withdrew before the competition started. Renata Soñé
Renata De Jesús Soñé Savery (born August 6, 1982, in New York City) is an American-born Dominican beauty pageant titleholder, model, and actress. She competed in the Miss Universe 2005 pageant, finishing 2nd Runner-Up after winning Miss Dominican Republic 2005. Life and career At six months of age, Soñé was left in the care of her grandparents after her mother's death. She went on to pursue a degree in clinical psychology before participating in the Miss Dominican Republic pageant. Of her long-term career goals, Soñé has said she wishes to found a children's institute to continue her interests as a psychologist. To this end, she has been the spokesperson of many campaigns headed by Dominican Attorney General Rossana Reyes designed to discourage child neglect, and curtail the high number of abandoned children through education and public awareness. Dominican Americans ( es, domínico-americanos, ) are Americans who trace their ancestry to the Dominican Republic. Higüey (city)
Higüey (), or in full Salvaleón de Higüey, is the capital city of the eastern La Altagracia Province, in the Dominican Republic, and the eighth largest city of that country. The Yuma River flows through the urban areas of Higüey. Higüey is also the name of a former native chiefdom in Hispaniola's easternmost end when Christopher Columbus arrived. It is now one of the country's economically fastest-developing cities, sometimes nicknamed the Capital of Dominican Tourism or the Capital of Stockbreeding. As of 2006, over 150,000 people lived in Higüey. The city thrives chiefly on tourism, with many of its inhabitants employed in the hotel complexes of Punta Cana a few kilometers away, or selling tourist products. San Cristóbal Province
San Cristóbal () is a province in the southern region of Dominican Republic, located west of the capital Santo Domingo. With approximately 642,000 inhabitants, it is the fourth most populated province in the country, only behind Santo Domingo, Santiago and the National District. Santiago Rodríguez Province
Santiago Rodríguez () is a province in the northwest region of the Dominican Republic. It was split from Monte Cristi in 1948. The Santiago Rodríguez province has the Monte Cristi and Valverde provinces to the north, the Santiago province to the east, the San Juan and Elías Piña provinces to the south and the Dajabón province to the west. Geography The province of Santiago Rodríguez presents a rugged relief with characteristics such as mountains, forests, hills, savannas and valleys all around. To the north, and separating it from the great Cibao valley, a formation composed of xerophilous vegetation known as the "Sierra Zamba" is observed. Monseñor Nouel () is a province in the central region of the Dominican Republic. It was split from La Vega province in 1982. Name The province is named after Monseñor Dr. Adolfo Alejandro Nouel y Bobadilla (1862-1937), an Archbishop of Santo Domingo who was briefly President of the Republic from 1912 to 1913. Nagua
Nagua is the capital of María Trinidad Sánchez province, in the northeastern Dominican Republic. A medium-sized town, Nagua's economy relies on the production of agricultural products, principally rice, coconuts, and cocoa bean. Located on the north of the Samaná Peninsula, Nagua lies on the highway leading from Puerto Plata to the city of Samaná. Location Most of the town lies below sea level, which some believe makes Nagua susceptible to flooding that could destroy a substantial part of the town.
