Ascalabus
Ascalabus (Ancient Greek: Ἀσκάλαβος), in Greek mythology, was a son of Misme. Mythology When Demeter, on her wanderings in search of her daughter Persephone who had been abducted by Hades, came to Misme in Attica, the goddess was received kindly, and being exhausted and thirsty, Misme gave her something to drink (a kykeon). As the goddess emptied the vessel at one draught, Ascalabus laughed at her, and ordered a whole cask to be brought. Demeter, indignant at the boy's conduct, sprinkled the few remaining drops from her vessel upon him and thereby changed him into a gecko. The tale is preserved in Antoninus Liberalis' ''Metamorphoses'', which cites Nicander's lost ''Heteroeumena''. The tale is also told in Ovid's Metamorphoses, though Ascalabus and his mother go unnamed: "presumably... to avoid confusion with Ascalaphus". In Roman versions of the story, where Demeter is called Ceres, Ascalabus is often named Stellio. See also * Baubo * Iambe * Metaneira Notes ...

Jane Misme
Jane Misme (1865–1935) was a French journalist and feminist. She founded the feminist journal ''La Française'' (The Frenchwoman), published from 1906 to 1934, and was a member of the executive of the French Union for Women's Suffrage and the National Council of French Women. Early years Jane Misme was born in 1865. In January 1893 Jeanne Schmahl founded the ''Avant-Courrière'' (Forerunner) association, which called for the right of women to be witnesses in public and private acts, and for the right of married women to take the product of their labor and dispose of it freely. The campaign aimed to mobilize middle- and upper-class women who had moderate and conservative views. Anne de Rochechouart de Mortemart (1847–1933), Duchess of Uzès and Juliette Adam (1836–1936) soon joined the ''Avant-Courrière'', and Schmahl found support from Jane Misme and Jeanne Chauvin (1862–1926), the first woman to become a doctor of law. Journalist Jane Misme became a journalist when ...

Chilula
Chilula (Yurok language term: Chueluela' / Chueluelaa' , ''Tsulu-la'', "People of Tsulu, the Bald Hill", locally known as the "Bald Hills Indians") were a Pacific Coast Athabaskan tribe speaking a dialect similar to the Hupa to the east and Whilkut to the south, who inhabited the area on or near Lower Redwood Creek, in Northern California, some 500 to 600 years before contact with Europeans. Upstream and northwest of the Whilkut along the Lower Redwood Creek lived the Chilula; they established their more than 20 villages only along the eastern shore, because there the mountains were broken by valleys irrigated by small streams, while the western shore was difficult to access. The Chilula (together with Whilkut) were called by the neighboring Hupa-speaking peoples Xwiy¬q'it-xwe / Xwe:yłq'it-xwe ("Redwood Ridge / Bald Hills People"), the Karuk also called them Vitkirik'áraar ("People of Viitkírik/Viitkírak (Bald Hills)"), therefore they were also known as ''Bald Hills Indi ...
