Mischief In The Air
''Mischief in the Air'' is a comedy mystery play from Max Afford. The story takes place in a radio station. It was one of the few Australian plays of the 1940s to receive a professional production, being produced by J. C. Williamson's, J.C. Williamsons Ltd. They produced it in association with radio station 2GB and production company Macquarie Radio Network, Macquarie, who presented a radio version. Plot The action takes place in a Rex Broadcasting Studios, a station owned by Larry Carlson, a former Australian soldier, and Clay Tuttle, an American serviceman. Larry manages the business while Clay writes scripts. Larry is engaged to Fern, a doctor. Larry and Clay need the interest of sponsors Mc McGuinness, a Scotsman and Mr Mandelberg, a Jewish New Australians, new Australian, but problems arise when the former falls dead. Fern figures out it was due to poison. Other characters include novelist Mrs Van Leydon, studio supervisor Arnold Vickery, actor Clarence Parsons and his wife ...

Max Afford
Malcolm R. Afford (8 April 1906 – 2 November 1954) known as Max Afford, was an Australian playwright and novelist. Biography Early years Afford was born in Adelaide, South Australia, the youngest son of Robert D. Afford of "Glenleigh", Stamford street Parkside, an inner suburb. He left school when he was 16, and started writing novels and plays. Personal life After winning the centenary competition in Adelaide, he moved to Sydney in 1936, on contract to the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) as a playwright and producer in the Federal Productions Department. Max married Thelma Thomas on 16 April 1938 at St Michael's church, Vaucluse, Sydney. Thelma, a costume designer whom he met on the set of ''Colonel Founder / Awake my Love'' two years earlier, was originally from Broken Hill, then Adelaide, and had moved to Sydney to design the costumes for the New South Wales sesqui-centenary pageant.
