Misamis Oriental's 2nd congressional district is one of the two congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Misamis Oriental. It has been represented in the House of Representatives since 1987. Naawan
Naawan, officially the Municipality of Naawan ( ceb, Lungsod sa Naawan; tl, Bayan ng Naawan), is a fourth class municipality of the Philippines, municipality in the Philippine Province, province of Misamis Oriental, Philippines. The population of the town is estimated to be 22,444 according to the 2020 census. Naawan has earned a national reputation as one of the most beautiful towns in the country, as well as being named the cleanest town in the Philippines in 2008. The Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino () is a centre-right political party in the Philippines. There are no results available for the 2004 election for the House of Representatives, but according to the website of the House, the party held 7 out of 235 seats. 1987 Philippine House Of Representatives Elections
Elections for the House of Representatives in the Philippines were held on May 11, 1987. This was the first legislative election since 1984, the first House of Representatives elections since 1969, and the first election since the People Power Revolution that overthrew president Ferdinand Marcos and brought Corazon Aquino to power after alleged election fraud by the former during the 1986 presidential election against the latter. Although no party surpassed 20% of the popular vote, candidates that ran under two or more parties won a quarter of the seats, followed by PDP–Laban and Lakas ng Bansa of subsequent speaker Ramon Mitra, Jr. that would later be the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino after some of the members of PDP–Laban defected. The Ferdinand Marcos loyalists either ran under the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan, as independents, or found their way into the pro-Corazon Aquino parties. Victorico Chaves
Victorico L. Chaves, also known as "Concoy" (b. 1932/1933 – February 18, 2016) was a Filipino sportsman and politician. He served as an assistant majority floor leader and representative of the 2nd district of Misamis Oriental for three consecutive terms (1987–1992, 1992–1995, 1995–1998) and also served as the president of the Philippine Amateur Volleyball Association (PAVA, later renamed as the Philippine Volleyball Federation in 2006) from 1986 to 1995. He is also a co-author of a house bill seeking for the creation of the Philippine Sports Commission enacted into law in 1990. He died on February 18, 2016, at the St. Luke's Medical Center in Taguig, citing his lung complications. Misamis Oriental's At-large Congressional District
Misamis Oriental's at-large congressional district is an obsolete congressional district of the Philippines that encompassed the entire province of Misamis Oriental. It was created ahead of the 1931 Philippine House of Representatives elections following the 1929 division of Misamis into two provinces. The district elected one member in each of the final two meetings of the Philippine Assembly from 1931 to 1935 and in the two meetings of Commonwealth National Assembly from 1935 to 1941. Two members represented the district in the Second Republic National Assembly from 1943 to 1944. It returned to a single-member constituency for the restored House of Representatives in both the Commonwealth Congress from 1945 to 1946 and all seven meetings post-independence until 1972. The district was last contested at the 1984 Philippine parliamentary election when its capital city of Cagayan de Oro also began to elect its own separate representative.
