Miriam Lambert (puppeteer)
Miriam Lambert is an Irish puppeteer, she was the original puppeteer of Bosco. Lambert was a member of the family's Lambert Puppet Theatre in Monkstown, County Dublin. Biography Lambert was born in Dublin to Eugene and Mai Lambert, both famous Irish puppeteers known for creating the Lambert Puppet Theatre in 1972. She grew up in Finglas. Lambert was involved in the theatre with them appearing in the various TV shows. She began aged eight as the little witch ‘Babóg’ in Murphy agus a Chairde. Lambert went on to perform as many characters on Wanderly Wagon but particularly 'The Squirrels'. She performed as the puppeteer and voice of Bosco until 1981 when her sister Paula took over from her. Lambert left Ireland, spending several years living in the Netherlands before returning home. Bosco (TV Series)
Bosco is an Irish children's television programme produced during the late 1970s and 1980s. It was produced and shown by RTÉ in Ireland. Designed by Jan Mitchell, Bosco was voiced by Jonathan Ryan initially, in the pilot series that was broadcast, with four presenters per show, in 1979. When the show went into full-time production in 1980, with two presenters per show, Miriam Lambert took over. From the 1981 season onwards, Paula Lambert took over. Bosco's name was chosen by Helen Quinn, sister of presenter Marian Richardson. It ran for 386 episodes, ending production in 1987. The show was continually repeated before (and later during) ''The Den'' daily until 30 September 1996, when it was replaced by ''The Morbegs'' before officially ending on 26 November 1998. Lambert Puppet Theatre
The Lambert Puppet Theatre & Museum was a puppet theatre located in Monkstown, County Dublin, Ireland. It was a family-run business established in 1972 by Eugene Lambert, and hosted an international puppet festival annually. It produced children's television series on Radio Telefís Éireann such as ''Wanderly Wagon''. After the death of Eugene Lambert, the theatre was run by his son, Liam. On August 28, 2015, the building was badly damaged in an arson attack, which caused damage with a cost in excess of €150,000. On 13 November 2015, the theatre re-opened to the public with re-built puppets, for the Christmas performance of ''Aladdin Aladdin ( ; ar, علاء الدين, ', , ATU 561, ‘Aladdin') is a Middle-Eastern folk tale. Monkstown, County Dublin
Monkstown (), historically known as ''Carrickbrennan'' ( gle, Carraig Bhraonáin), is a suburb in south Dublin, located in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Ireland. It is on the coast, between Blackrock and Dún Laoghaire. The lands of the Carrickbrennan estate form the greater part of the civil parish of Monkstown. History A church was built at Carrickbrennan (as Monkstown was then known) before the 8th century, and dedicated to Saint Mochonna, bishop of Inispatrick or Holmpatrick by Skerries. The grange of Carrickbrennan, otherwise Monkstown, was granted by the King to the Cistercian monks of Saint Mary's Abbey, Dublin, in 1200. The monks built their grange near to the church, and the village grew up around it. Eugene Lambert
Eugene Lambert (1928 – 22 February 2010) was an Irish puppeteer and actor from County Sligo. He was owner of the Lambert Puppet Theatre in Monkstown, County Dublin. He was noted for co-starring as O'Brien in the RTÉ television series ''Wanderly Wagon'' and for the ' ("Murphy and Friends") puppet television programme in the 1960s. He died in 2010 at the age of 82. Early life Lambert was born and raised in County Sligo. His father was the county librarian and died at the age of 35. His mother took on his father's old job and Lambert was raised in a bookish home. ''Wanderly Wagon'' is an Irish children's television series which aired on RTÉ from Saturday 30 September 1967Hourihane, Anne Marie''Sunday Tribune'' 11 August 2002. until 1982. Plot ''Wanderly Wagon'' followed human and puppet characters as they travelled around Ireland visiting interesting locations, rescuing Princesses and generally doing good. The original premise of the show expanded to follow the characters to magical lands of Irish mythology, and into outer space.
