Miriam Kastner
Miriam Kastner (born January 22, 1935) is a Bratislavan born, (former Czechoslovakia) Israeli raised, American oceanographer and geochemist. Kastner is currently a Distinguished Professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego. She is still recognized by her fundamental contributions to science and is well spoken of amongst colleagues. Education Miriam Kastner has enjoyed the sciences since she was a child and had originally wanted to be a mathematician, however she had later decided down the road that, math was not the career for her as there were far fewer careers to pursue in mathematics. Miriam had noticed that not many women were scientists in her early life, which had inspired her to research further about the different sciences. Oceanography
Oceanography (), also known as oceanology and ocean science, is the scientific study of the oceans. Society For Sedimentary Geology
The Society for Sedimentary Geology is an international not-for-profit, scientific society based in Oklahoma. It is commonly referred to by its acronym SEPM, which refers to its former name, the Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists. The Society’s reason for being is to disseminate scientific information on sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology, environmental sciences, marine geology, hydrogeology, and related specialties. The Geological Society of America (GSA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of the geosciences. History The society was founded in Ithaca, New York, in 1888 by Alexander Winchell, John J. Stevenson, Charles H. Hitchcock, John R. Procter and Edward Orton and has been headquartered at 3300 Penrose Place, Boulder, Colorado, US, since 1967. GSA began with 100 members under its first president, James Hall. In 1889 Mary Emilie Holmes became its first female member. It grew slowly but steadily to 600 members until 1931, when a nearly $4 million endowment from 1930 president R. A. F.
