Mireille Bauer
Mireille Bauer (born 24 August 1951, Barr, Alsace, northeastern France) is a French percussionist and former member of Gong. Through her then boyfriend Pierre Moerlen, she first worked with Gong in a session capacity on '' Angel's Egg'' and ''You'' before joining the band fully for albums including '' Expresso II'' (by which time the band had become Pierre Moerlen's Gong). She subsequently left the band and joined progressive rock/fusion band Edition Speciale (1978-9). During this period, she was living with Gong bassist Francis Moze. In the 1980s, she played in John Greaves' backing band, working alongside François Ovide. She later married Ovide and had two children. She subsequently worked with Art Zoyd Art Zoyd is a French band formed in 1969, mixing free jazz, progressive rock and avant-garde electronica. Barr, Bas-Rhin
Barr (; in Alsatian ''Borr'') is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in the Alsace region of north-eastern France. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Barrois'' or ''Barroises''. The commune has been awarded "three flowers" by the National Council of Towns and Villages in Bloom in the ''Competition of cities and villages in Bloom''. Geography Barr lies in the foothills of the Vosges Mountains at the foot of Mont Sainte-Odile some 25 km (15 miles) south-west of Strasbourg and 5 km (3 miles) north of Epfig. The A35 autoroute passes through the eastern tip of the commune from north to south and Exit lies in the tip of the commune. The D62 runs west through the commune from the exit to Andlau. Art Zoyd is a French band formed in 1969, mixing free jazz, progressive rock and avant-garde electronica. Gérard Hourbette was the band's director and composer until his death in May 2018. Another key member of the band was Thierry Zaboitzeff, who left the band in 1997. They both joined the band in 1971 and reformed it completely in 1975. François Ovide
François Ovide (born in Rouen, October 1952; died in Rouen, 29 May 2002) was a French guitarist, best known for his longstanding collaborations with Albert Marcoeur and with John Greaves. Ovide grew up around Rouen. His first two band projects in the 1970s were rock band So & Co and Plat du Jour. In 1976, he started working with Marcoeur. He went on to join Weidorje for the band's last year of existence and then started doing session work. He also joined folk-rock band Gwendal in 1981. In 1984, he joined Greaves' backing band, working alongside Mireille Bauer (previously of Gong). They later married and had two children. Ovide went on to play on Greaves' albums ''La Petite Bouteille de Linge'' (1991), ''Songs'' and ''The Caretaker''. He also played on Pip Pyle's 1998 ''7 Year Itch''. John Greaves (musician)
John Greaves (born 23 February 1950) is a British bass guitarist and composer who was a member of Henry Cow and has collaborated with Peter Blegvad. He was also a member of progressive rock band National Health and jazz-rock supergroup Soft Heap, and has recorded several solo albums, including ''Accident'' (1982), ''Parrot Fashions'' (1984), ''The Caretaker'' (2001) and ''Greaves Verlaine'' (2008). Biography Greaves was born in Prestatyn and grew up in Wrexham in northeast Wales. At the age of 12, he was given a bass guitar by his father, a Welsh dancehall bandleader, and within six months, he was playing in his father's orchestra. He continued playing in the orchestra for four years, during which time its varied musical styles gave Greaves valuable musician and arranger skills. He was educated at Grove Park Grammar School in Wrexham from 1961 to 1968. Francis Moze
Francis Moze (born 2 February 1946) is a French bass player, best known for his work in Magma, Gong and Pierre Moerlen's Gong. Moze played in an early line-up with Magma. When he left the group, Giorgio Gomelsky introduced him to Gong. He played on the album '' Flying Teapot'' (1973). He re-joined what had by then become Pierre Moerlen's Gong for the ''Gazeuse!'' (1976) album (in the U.S., it was called ''Expresso''). After Pierre Moerlen's departure, Moze stayed in London, joining Peter Lemer's trio, also with Laurie Allan on drums. Fusion (music)
A music genre is a conventional category that identifies some pieces of music as belonging to a shared tradition or set of conventions. It is to be distinguished from ''musical form'' and musical style, although in practice these terms are sometimes used interchangeably. Music can be divided into genres in varying ways, such as popular music and art music, or religious music and secular music.
