Miramar Rangers
Miramar Rangers AFC is an amateur New Zealand association football club in the Wellington suburb of Miramar. The club is one of the most successful in New Zealand having won the Chatham Cup four times and the National League title twice. Over the last decade the club has played in the Central League and has won the division seven times, most recently in 2020. In 2004 it became one of the founding principal clubs of the Team Wellington franchise in the ASB Premiership. Club history Miramar won the Chatham Cup, New Zealand's premier knockout tournaments for men, in 1966, 1992, 2004 and 2010, and were Central League winners in 1997, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2020. David Farrington Park
David Farrington Park, previously known as Centennial Park, is a football ground in the suburb of Miramar in Wellington, New Zealand. It is used for football matches and is the home ground of both Team Wellington and Miramar Rangers AFC. In 2009, the grounds name was changed to David Farrington Park as a mark of respect to the local football stalwart who died in 2008. Central League (New Zealand)
The Central League is an amateur status league competition run by Capital Football for Association football clubs located in the southern and central parts of the North Island, New Zealand. From 2021 it is at the second level of New Zealand Football below the National League, which has replaced the national association based ISPS Handa Premiership. League history The premier league was initially set up as one of the three feeder leagues to the New Zealand National Soccer League in 1992, and continued in this form until being disbanded at the end of the 1999 season. Christchurch United
Christchurch United is an amateur association football club in Christchurch, New Zealand. They compete in various Mainland Football competitions at Junior and Senior level. The club has won six National League titles and six Chatham Cup trophies. Christchurch United are the current Southern League champions. Wellington United AFC is an association football club based in Wellington, New Zealand, that competes in the Central League. History Wellington Diamond United Wellington Diamond United was the result of the merger of Diamond and Zealandia/Wellington United in 1968. Diamond was founded as a junior football club in 1893 by members of the Star Rugby Club, who wished to play football. It became a senior team in 1895. Zealandia was founded in 1954 by Dutch immigrants, changing its name to Wellington United in 1964. In 1968 the club played in the Central Region's Division One, finishing fourth out ten. Stu Jacobs
Stu Jacobs (born 25 October 1965) is a New Zealand association football player and manager who represented New Zealand and coached the New Zealand Men's Olympic team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. In October 2016 he was awarded Capital Football Federation's Coach of the Year award for leading Wellington Olympic to victory winning the Central League competition. 1996 Chatham Cup
The 1996 Chatham Cup was the 69th annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. Up to the last 16 of the competition, the cup was run in three regions (northern, central, and southern), with an open draw from the quarter-finals on. National League teams received a bye until the fourth round (last 32). In all, 127 teams took part in the competition, which consisted of a preliminary round and five rounds proper before quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a final. The 1996 final For the second year in a row, Waitakere City won the league/cup double - the only team to have achieved this two seasons running. They also became only the third team to win the Chatham Cup three years in a row, having won in both 1994 and 1995. João Vítor Rocha de Carvalho Moreira (born 7 February 1986) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays for New Zealand club Manukau United FC as a forward. Club career Moreira was born in Amadora, Lisbon. Still a youngster, he made his Primeira Liga debut with C.F. Estrela da Amadora and, after that season, signed a five-year contract with Valencia CF, but was immediately loaned out to Rayo Vallecano. Sam Mason-Smith (born 25 October 1991) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for Miramar Rangers in the New Zealand National League. Career New Zealand Embarking on a move to New Zealand's Richmond Athletic with three other Englishmen for 2011, Mason-Smith gained a switch to Team Wellington who play in the national league. With the National League in New Zealand played during the summer, Mason-Smith played his winter season for local team Miramar Rangers. Wynton Alan Whai Rufer (born 29 December 1962) is a New Zealand retired professional footballer who played as a striker. He spent more than a decade of his professional career in Switzerland and Germany, achieving his greatest success at Werder Bremen, where he won a total of four major titles and finished the top scorer in the UEFA Champions League 1993–94 season.
