"The Miracle of Life" is a documentary film about the human reproductive process. The film won multiple awards including a Peabody and an Emmy when it was broadcast as part of the American TV series ''Nova (American TV series), Nova''. Photographed by Lennart Nilsson, the program originally aired in Sweden on November 25, 1982 under the title of "The Saga of Life." The British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC acquired the episode for the documentary series Horizon (BBC TV series), ''Horizon'' and aired it that same month. Many scenes were edited and the intro in both the ''Horizon'' and ''Nova'' versions are different, as well as the ending scene where the baby was born. The ''Nova'' version of the film was broadcast on PBS on February 15, 1983. It was written and produced by Bebe Nixon and narrated by Anita Sangiolo. ''Miracles of Life'' is an autobiography written by British writer J. G. Ballard and published in 2008. Overview The book describes Ballard's childhood and early teenage years in Shanghai in the 1930s and the early 1940s, when the city is ravaged by the Second Sino-Japanese War in the Battle of Shanghai and World War II. After the happy years spent with his well-to-do family in the Shanghai International Settlement, Ballard experiences the horrors of war and then the deprivations of an internment camp, Lunghua, where he is imprisoned with his parents, his sister, and hundreds of other British, Belgian, Dutch and American nationals.
