Miracle Mile (Coral Gables)
Miracle Mile is a section of Coral Way between LeJeune Road (SW 42nd Avenue) and Douglas Road (SW 37th Avenue) in Coral Gables, Florida. It is the main east-west road through the city's downtown central business district, consisting of many shops, financial institutions, restaurants and arts institution. The LeJeune Road end of Miracle Mile is anchored by the Coral Gables City Hall. Miracle Mile and the surrounding Downtown Coral Gables area is served indirectly by the Miami Metrorail by transferring from the Douglas Road station to the Coral Gables Trolley at the station. The trolley runs up and down Ponce de Leon Boulevard from Miracle Mile to the Metro. Miracle Marketplace
Miracle Marketplace is a shopping mall in Miami, Florida, United States, which opened in March 1989. It is located at 3301 Coral Way (S.W. 22 Street), just a few blocks east of Douglas Road (S.W. 37 Avenue), east of Coral Gables. History In 1989, the mall opened as Miracle Center. At the time, it included several chain retail tenants, a movie theatre owned by General Cinema Corporation, and three chain restaurants: Chili's; TGI Friday's; and Fuddruckers. It was designed by Architectonica International in a 1980s Post-Modern style. It had large trapezoidal "clouds" affixed to the façade, but they were removed by new owners when the building was renovated in the mid-2000s. Paul Chalfin
Paul Chalfin (1874-1959) was an artist and interior designer with an interest in architecture, most known for his work on Villa Vizcaya. Paul was openly gay; his longtime partner was Louis Koons. Early life Paul Chalfin was born in New York City on November 2, 1874, to Colonel Samuel Fletcher Chalfin and Jane Voorhees (Connolly) Chalfin. Chalfin began studying at Harvard University in 1894; he left after two years to become an artist, enrolling at the Art Students League of New York to study painting. After graduating in 1898, he was accepted at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he studied painting with Jean-Léon Gérôme, a historic genre painter who had previously taught Thomas Eakins. Chalfin possessed excellent taste in building design and used his extensive observation of European buildings and monuments, and liked being mistaken for an architect, but he never studied or obtained a degree in architecture, nor did he ever work as an architect. Phineas P. Paist (August 28, 1873 – May 2, 1937) was an American architect who was the supervising architect for the Coral Gables Corporation. Paist was an architect working for S. Gifford Slocum at age 20. In 1893 he became an associate of G. W. & W. D. Hewitt. He later worked as an associate architect to Paul Chalfin in building the Villa Vizcaya in Florida.
