Minsk State Linguistic University
Minsk State Linguistic University (MSLU; '', МДЛУ'') is a public university in Minsk, Belarus. It specializes in language education and offers courses in 18 foreign languages including English, German, French, Spanish, etc., as well as training teachers of Russian and Belarusian as foreign languages. It was founded in 1948 as Minsk State Pedagogical Institute for Foreign Languages and today is considered the flagship university in Belarus for language education and translator training. In addition to degree programs and continuous education courses aimed at local students, MSLU also offers both short courses and degree programs for foreign nationals, mainly focusing on the Russian language. The university maintains ties with institutions abroad, including exchange programs for students and faculty. Lyavon Barshchewski ( be, Лявон Баршчэўскі) (born March 4, 1958) is a Belarusian philologist and opposition politician. He is also accredited as a nonresident ambassador to Mexico. Ernst (Ernest) Sabila ( be, Эрнст Сабіла or Эрнэст Сабіла, 18 March 1932 – 5 February 2022) was a Belarusian Protestant religious leader, dissident and Gulag survivor. Biography Born in the village of Dziehciarouka (now part of Minsk District), SSR Belarus, USSR, he studied at the Minsk Medical Institute. In 1951, while still a student, he was arrested by Soviet authorities and accused of ''religious and nationalist propaganda''. He was sentenced to death but the sentence was then replaced by a 25 years labour camp imprisonment. International Media Support (IMS) is an international NGO located in Copenhagen, Denmark, working to support local media in countries affected by armed conflict, human insecurity and political transition.
