Ludwig Minkus
Ludwig Minkus (russian: link=no, Людвиг Минкус), also known as Léon Fyodorovich Minkus (23 March 1826, Vienna – 7 December 1917, Vienna), was a Jewish-Austrian composer of ballet music, a violin virtuoso and teacher. Minkus is noted for the music he composed while serving as the official Composer of Ballet Music to the St. Petersburg Imperial Theatres in Russia. During his long career, he wrote for the original works and numerous revivals staged by the renowned Ballet Masters Arthur Saint-Léon and Marius Petipa. Among the composer's most celebrated compositions was his score for '' La source'' (1866; composed jointly with Léo Delibes), ''Don Quixote'' (1869); and ''La Bayadère'' (1877). Minkus also wrote supplemental material for insertion into already existing ballets. Jacques Minkus
Jacques Minkus (December 15, 1901 – September 17, 1996), of New York City, emigrated to the United States in 1929 and established stamp counters for postage stamp collectors at numerous department stores in the United States. Philatelic activity Minkus established his first stamp counter at Gimbels department store in Manhattan in 1931. He was successful in this method of selling stamps and continued to open stamp counters in department stores until the 1960s, when he had opened thirty eight counters. Minkus also published a stamp catalog titled '' Minkus New World Wide Stamp Catalog'' starting in 1955. In addition to the catalog, he published over one hundred stamp albums for collectors. Honors and awards The Service to Philately Award was presented to Minkus by the American Stamp Dealers Association in 1966. Minkus Catalog
The Minkus catalogue was a comprehensive of American and worldwide postage stamps, edited by George A Tlamsa and published by Krause Publications. In the United States Minkus competed with the Scott catalogue as a distant second. Generally sold through department store stamp collecting departments, it had its own system of numbering stamps which was used in its catalogues and stamp albums; Scott's numbering system is proprietary. The Minkus catalogue and numbering system was acquired by Amos Press in 2004 and no further editions were published. The last US catalog was the ''2004 Krause-Minkus Standard Catalog of U.S. Stamps''. The Minkus catalogues had more extensive information about the subjects of stamps, a short paragraph about the subject portrayed on the stamp, than the Scott catalogue, which has only a name or brief sentence. Christian Minkus
Christian Minkus (May or June 1770 in Klein-Lassowitz – November 20, 1849 in Marienfeld) represented Silesian constituencies of the former German provinces Rosenberg O.S. and Kreuzburg O.S. as a member of the Frankfurt Assembly. Life He was born in May or June 1770 in Klein-Lassowitz, Silesia, as the son of a farmer. He travelled through Upper Silesia as a salesman and thus became familiar with the needs of the local population. Through this awareness, Minkus became a representative of the counties Rosenberg O.S. and Kreuzburg O.S. in the Frankfurt National Assembly from May 29, 1848 to May 26, 1849. He was one of the oldest members of the first German National Assembly and was a member of the left-leaning faction ''Deutscher Hof'' and, after November 21, 1848, the united left coalition, the ''Centralmärzverein.''
