The Danish Ministry of Transport ( da, Transportministeriet) is the Danish ministry in charge of coordinating and realizing the transport politics of Denmark. The Ministry is headed by a Permanent Secretary. The Ministry of Transport employs approximately 140 staff. The daily administration and handling of tasks and assignments on transport are carried out by a number of institutions, executive agencies, corporations, councils and boards. Counting every institution and every corporation the Ministry employs around 40.000 people History The Ministry of Transport was founded in 1892 under the name Ministry for Public Works ("''Ministeriet for offentlige Arbejder''"). In 1987 it changed name to Ministry of Traffic ("''Trafikministeriet''"), though briefly known as Ministry of Traffic and Communication ("''Trafik- og Kommunikationsministeriet''") during 1988 to 1989. The Ministry of the Interior and Health () is a former Danish ministry that has existed twice in the 21st century by combination of existing ministries. The Ministry of Interior and Health was first created in 2001 under the first government of Anders Fogh Rasmussen, by combining the Ministry of the Interior (''Indenrigsministeriet'') and the Ministry of Health (''Sundhedsministeriet''). The minister was Lars Løkke Rasmussen and the permanent secretary Ib Valsborg, succeeded in 2005 by Christian Schønau. The ministry carried out a far-reaching . Bjørn Westh
Bjørn Westh (born 1944) is a Danish politician from the Social Democrats. He held several cabinet posts in the 1980s and 1990s. Early life and education Westh was born in Overlade Parish on 2 February 1944, and his parents are Hans Rømer Westh, a headmaster, and Ingrid Westh, a kindergarten teacher. In 1969 Westh received a degree in land inspection from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University. During his studies he was close to Liberal Centre, but when the party was closed Westh joined the Social Democrats. Jan Trøjborg
Jan Trøjborg (14 December 1955 – 6 May 2012) was a Danish politician representing the Social Democrats. He was a member of parliament (Folketinget) from 8 September 1987 to 31 December 2005. In November 2005 he was elected Mayor of Horsens. At the time of his death, he was the chairman of Kommunernes Landsforening. He died of a heart attack while riding a bicycle in a cycling race. His demise occurred the day before a Giro d'Italia stage was taking place in his city. Trøjborg had been a key factor in bringing the 2012 Giro to Denmark. Arne Melchior
Arne Melchior (22 October 1924 – 24 September 2016) was a Danish politician of Jewish descent and supporter of Jewish causes. He was the son of Marcus Melchior. Melchior was active in the Social Democratic Party but left this party in 1973 to co-found the Centre Democrats. He was member of the Danish Parliament 1973-75 and again 1977–2001. He was minister of traffic in the Conservative Poul Schlüter coalition government 1982–86, and Minister for Communication and Tourism in the Social Democratic Poul Nyrup Rasmussen coalition government 1993–94. Knud Heinesen
Knud Heinesen (born 1932) is a Danish economist and politician who held various cabinet posts, including the minister of education and minister of finance. In 1985 he retired from politics and involved in business. Early life and education Heinesen was born in Kerteminde on 26 September 1932. Ivar Hansen (1 November 1938 – 11 March 2003) was a Danish politician from the Liberal party '' Venstre''. He was elected to the Folketing in 1973. Kjeld Olesen
Kjeld Olesen (born 8 July 1932, in Copenhagen) is a Danish former Social Democratic politician. His father was among the resistance members against Nazi Germany during World War II. In 1955 Olesen was part of the CIA team who secretly listened in the leftist politicians Ragnhild Andersen and Alfred Jensen. He also worked in a private intelligence organisation called Arbejdernes Informations Central (Danish: Information Centre of the Labour Movement) financed by the labour movement. Ove Guldberg
Ove Guldberg (2 December 1918 – 28 February 2008) was a Danish engineer, businessman and politician from Venstre who served as the minister of public works from 1968 to 1971 and minister of foreign affairs from 1973 to 1975. Early life and education Guldberg was born in Nysted on 2 December 1918. His father was a jurist. He received an engineering degree in 1942 and obtained a candidate of law degree in 1949.
