Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (born 15 March 1959) is a Zambian businessman and politician who served as Member of Parliament for Kasama Central from 2009 to 2016. He later served as Vice President of the United Party for National Development. Under the Patriotic Front government of President Michael Sata, he served as Minister of Defence from 2011 to 2013. United Party For National Development
The United Party for National Development (UPND) is a social liberal political party in Zambia, led by Hakainde Hichilema, the current president of the country. The party is an observer member of the Africa Liberal Network. History The UPND was established in December 1998 and was initially led by Anderson Mazoka, who had left the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) shortly beforehand. Mazoka was the party's presidential candidate for the 2001 general elections, finishing second with 27% of the vote, less than 2% behind the winner Levy Mwanawasa of the MMD. In the National Assembly elections the UPND won 49 seats, becoming the second largest party after the MMD. Ambrose Lwiji Lufuma (born October 26, 1957) is a Zambian politician, businessman, and economist serving as Zambia's Minister of Defense. Early life Ambrose was born to Raphael Lufuma and Chisengo in 1957, in Kawanda Village of Kabompo. He attended Kawanda Primary School. In 1972, he was transferred to Mpima Seminary for his high school education. Career In 1976, he joined the Zambia National Service and underwent military training after graduating from high school. Edgar Chagwa Lungu (born 11 November 1956) is a Zambian politician who served as the sixth president of Zambia from 25 January 2015 to 24 August 2021. Under President Michael Sata, Lungu served as Minister of Justice and Minister of Defence. Following Sata's death in October 2014, Lungu was adopted as the candidate of the Patriotic Front in a Convention of the Patriotic Front in Kabwe, for the January 2015 presidential by-election, which was to determine who would serve out the remainder of Sata's term. The Patriotic Front (PF) is a social democratic political party in Zambia. The party was formed by Michael Sata as a breakaway party of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) in 2001 after the President Frederick Chiluba nominated Levy Mwanawasa as its presidential candidate for 2001 elections. The party's main base of support are usually the youth and poor people in urban centres (although this support wavered starting in 2021), as well as members of the Bemba people in Copperbelt Province and Lusaka Province. After several years, the PF gained power in the 2011 general elections, and governed until the 2021 elections. Formation The Patriotic Front was formed as a political party in 2001. Kalombo Mwansa (1955 – March 15, 2020) was a Zambian politician who served as Ministry of Defence (Zambia), Defence Minister. Political career Kalombo Mwansa became Zambia's Defense Minister on July 9, 2009. He was previously the foreign minister of Zambia from July 19, 2002 until January 2005, when he switched positions with Ronnie Shikapwasha in a cabinet reshuffle and became home affairs minister until August 2005, when he became mines and development minister in another cabinet reshuffle. He became home minister again after the 2008 presidential election, serving from November 18, 2008, until July 2009 when he became Defense Minister in another cabinet reshuffle.
