The Tunisian Ministry of the Interior is a government ministry of Tunisia, responsible mainly for internal affairs. 2011 communiqué In a communiqué released on Monday 7 March 2011, the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior said it has already started implementing the following measures: *Breaking definitely with any "political police" functions whether at the level of structure, mission or practices. *Removing the State Security Division. *Reasserting the commitment of the Interior Ministry to enforce the law and respect freedoms and civil rights. In this communiqué the Interior Ministry said all these practical measures are in harmony with the values of the revolution and are designed to comply with the law, in theory and practice, in materialisation of the climate of confidence and transparency in the relationship between security services and the citizens. Ali Chaouch (26 June 1948 – 17 August 2020) was a Tunisian politician and government minister. Biography Chaouch graduated from Tunis University in 1970 with a degree in economic science. He became director general of the Société d'économie mixte d'aménagement de Tunis in 1981, and he was nominated to be President-Director-General of the Agence de réhabilitation et de rénovation urbaine in 1982. After Zine El Abidine Ben Ali came to power, he was appointed leader of the Medenine Governorate on 21 November 1987, then became CEO of the Agence foncière de l'habitat. Chaouch first entered government when he became a secretary to the Minister of Public Health on 31 July 1992. Zine El Abidine Ben Ali ( ar, زين العابدين بن علي, translit=Zayn al-'Ābidīn bin 'Alī; 3 September 1936 – 19 September 2019), commonly known as Ben Ali ( ar, بن علي) or Ezzine ( ar, الزين), was a Tunisian politician who served as the 2nd president of Tunisia from 1987 to 2011. Mohammed Mzali ( ar, محمد مزالي, 23 December 1925 – 23 June 2010) was a Tunisian politician who served as Prime Minister between 1980 and 1986. Early life Mzali was born in Monastir, Tunisia on 23 December 1925. His family has ancestry from the Ait Mzal tribe, a Berber tribe from the Sous region of Morocco. Their Ait Mzal ancestor settled in Tunisia after coming back from the ''Hajj'' in the late 17th century. Mzali studied at Sadiki College in Tunis and at the Faculty of Humanities at Sorbonne University in Paris. Driss Guiga (born 21 October 1924) is a Tunisian lawyer and politician who was Minister of Health, Minister of Education and then Minister of the Interior for four years during the later part of the Habib Bourguiba regime. Early years Driss Guiga was born on 21 August 1924. His birthplace was Testour, a village in the northwest of Tunisia where his father was a teacher. He joined the national movement when he was 14 and was a student at Sadiki College in Tunis. The French colonial authorities arrested his teacher, Ali Belhaouane, on 8 April 1938. Belhaouane was responsible for the youth organization of the Neo Destour nationalist party, which had been founded four years earlier.
