The Ministry of the Interior ( sv, Inrikesdepartementet, In) was a ministry in Sweden established in 1947. The department dealt with matters concerning general health and medical care, the police service, the fire service, and the local government. The ministry was headed by the minister of the interior. At the end of 1973, the Ministry of the Interior ceased to exist and the activities were taken over by other ministries, such as the Ministry of Employment and the Ministry of Housing. In 1996, the former Ministry for Civil Service Affairs changed its name to the Ministry of the Interior and was called that until 1998, when the ministry ceased. Elections In Sweden
Elections in Sweden are held once every four years. At the highest level, all 349 members of Riksdag, the national parliament of Sweden, are elected in general elections. Elections to the 20 county councils ( sv, landsting) and 290 municipal assemblies () – all using almost the same electoral system – are held concurrently with the legislative elections on the second Sunday in September (with effect from 2014; until 2010 they had been held on the ''third'' Sunday in September). Sweden also holds elections to the European Parliament, which unlike Swedish domestic elections are held in June every five years, although they are also held on a Sunday and use an almost identical electoral system. State Secretary ( sv, statssekreterare) is the title of the senior political appointee, second in rank to the Cabinet Minister ( sv, Statsråd) in charge of the ministry. Unlike ministers, State Secretaries are not members of the Government. Each cabinet minister has a state secretary, who is the closest person working with the cabinet minister. Some cabinet ministers of higher rank, like the Prime Minister and the Minister for Finance, have more than one state secretary.
