The Ministry of Social Affairs ( ar, وزارة الشؤون الإجتماعية) of Lebanon is part of the cabinet. History and functions The ministry was created in 1993 by Law Number 212 and modified by Law Number 327 and Decree Number 5734. The major function of the ministry is to provide social protection and assistance. The current minister of Social Affairs is Richard Kouyoumdjian. The coat of arms of Lebanon ( ar, شعار لبنان) consists of a red shield with a white bend sinister on which is placed a cedar tree. It is very similar to the flag of Lebanon, with the exception of the Spanish fess on the flag being changed into a bend sinister. Politics Of Lebanon
Lebanon is a parliamentary democratic republic within the overall framework of confessionalism, a form of consociationalism in which the highest offices are proportionately reserved for representatives from certain religious communities. The constitution of Lebanon grants the people the right to change their government. However, from the mid-1970s until the parliamentary elections in 1992, the Lebanese Civil War (1975–1990) precluded the exercise of political rights. According to the constitution, direct elections must be held for the parliament every four years, however after the parliamentary election in 2009 another election was not held until 2018. The Parliament, in turn, elects a President every 6 years to a single term. The President is not eligible for re-election. The last presidential election was in 2016.
