Department of Shipping is a Bangladesh government regulatory agency under the Ministry of Shipping of Bangladesh responsible for maritime safety, formulation and enforcement of maritime regulation. The Director General of the Department of Shipping is Commodore Mohammad Maksud Alam (E), BSP, NUP, BCGM, BCGMS, ndc, psc, BN. History The agency came into existence in 1976 through the merger of Directorate of Shipping and the Controller of Shipping. It is responsible for the regulation of maritime activity in Bangladesh. The department is responsible for safety of inland navigation and issuing registration and annual fitness certificates of the vessels. International Maritime Organization has scrutinized the role of the Department of Shipping over fake competency certificate issued to ships. Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Academy
Marine Fisheries Academy (MFA) known as Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Academy (BMFA) is a government-run training institution in Bangladesh for cadets wishing to enter the fishing industry, merchant shipping and other related maritime industries. Established in 1973, it is the only national organization offering training for these professions. Marine Fisheries Academy is affiliated with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, Bangladesh (BSMRMU). Starting from the 39th batch, MFA offered four years (4 years) Bachelor of Science (Hons) under three different faculties. ABM Zahidul Haq
ABM Zahidul Haq ( bn, এবিএম জাহিদুল হক; died 13 September 2008) was a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and a Jatiya Sangsad member (MP) representing the Kishoreganj-1 constituency during 1991–1996. He also served as the Deputy Minister of Shipping in the same period. He founded Pakundia Adarsha Mohila College in 1993. Personal life ABM Zahidul Haq was born in a village called Narandi, which is located in Pakundia, Kishoreganj. He earned a good reputation in Pakundia and Hossainpur by establishing many educational institutions and improving the roads and bridges. Payra Port Authority is an autonomous port authority in charge of the third port in Port of Payra, Bangladesh, and is located in Patuakhali, Bangladesh. The chairman of the Payra port authority is Rear Admiral M Sohail. History The Port authority and the port was established on 19 November 2013 through the Payra Sea Port Act 2013. The port started commercial operations from August 2016 under the port authority. National Maritime Institute
National Maritime Institute or NMI is an autonomous state owned research and educational institute working as a statutory organization trains marines and carries out research in Bangladesh and is located in Chittagong, Bangladesh. History The institute was founded in 1952 near Hazi Camp, Pahartali, Chittagong. After the Independence of Bangladesh 1971, the institute was relocated to Seamen's Hostel. In 1973 the Institute returned to its original location near the Hazi camp. Bangladesh Shipping Corporation is a state-owned, autonomous corporation in Bangladesh. It owns a number of ships and oil tankers, and also charters sea-going vessels from other operators. The vessels are used to carry ready-made garments and other export items, and also to import crude oil from Saudi Arabia and UAE.
