Ministry Of Mahaweli Development And Environment
The Ministry of Environment ( si, පරිසර අමාත්යාංශය; ta, சுற்றாடல் அமைச்சு) is the cabinet ministry of the Government of Sri Lanka with oversight of the environment and the Mahaweli Development programme, as well as the general development of the Mahaweli River, its environs and communities living within defined 'Mahaweli development zones'. Effective 1 September 2017, the ministry banned the use of polythene with a thickness of under 20 microns for use, sale or distribution, as well as the use, sale or distribution of polystyrene food containers and utensils. The current minister is Naseer Ahamed, who took office on 23 May 2022. Rukman Senanayake (born 21 June 1948), is a Sri Lankan politician. A former Cabinet Minister of Environment and Natural Resources from 2002 to 2004 and Member of Parliament for Kegalle District, he was a Vice Leader of the United National Party. Achchige Don Susil Premajayantha (born 10 January 1955) is a Sri Lankan politician, Cabinet Minister and a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka. Education Premajayantha received his primary and secondary education at St. John's College, Nugegoda. After that he attended the University of Colombo and received a Bachelor of Laws in 1982 and became an Attorney at Law in 1984.
