Ministry Of Justice (Benin)
The Ministry of Justice of Benin provide public safety and legal services that "promote the rule of law, ensure the safety and security of the public and uphold the interest of the government and people of the Republic of Benin." According to Article 6 of the Law on the Statute of the Judiciary, the Minister of Justice is the direct superior of the Magistrates of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Central Administration of the Ministry of Justice. Grace D'Almeida
Grâce d'Almeida Adamon (1951–2005) was a Beninese lawyer, feminist, and human rights activist. Biography Grace Antonia Almeida Benoite Adamon was born on 21 March 1951 in Dakar, Senegal. She attended primary school at the Sisters of Porto-Novo and then moved to Dahomey (now Benin) with her family where she attended secondary school. She enrolled in the College of Our Lady of the Apostles in Cotonou and in 1972 took the baccalaureate series A in Guebwiller, France. She earned her diploma and master's degree from Panthéon-Assas University in Paris. She studied law at Pantheon-Sorbonne University, specialising in maritime law and the civil and commercial rights of workers. Joseph Gnonlonfoun
Joseph Houessou Gnonlonfoun (born 1943) is a Beninese politician and diplomat. Gnonlonfoun was born in Porto Novo and was educated locally and abroad. He was an associate of Albert Tévoédjrè and chaired his political party Ensemble National. Gnonlonfoun was the vice-president of the Cotonou Court of First Instance between 1970 and 1970 and substitute member of the Superior Council of Magistracy in 1973. Between 1980 and 1982 he was a political prisoner in military camps. He was Secretary General of the Beninese Human Rights Commission (CBHD) from 1989 to 1991 and served in the National Assembly (Benin), National Assembly from 1991 to 1995. Marie-Elise Akouavi Gbèdo (born 29 December 1954) is a Beninese politician who has run for president four times. She served as Minister of Justice of Benin from 2012 to 2013. Biography Early life and legal career Marie-Elise Gbèdo was born on 29 December 1954 in Mankono, in today's Ivory Coast. She was educated in Benin at the primary and secondary level, then went to France to continue her studies at the Sorbonne University. She earned a license and a master's degree in law, and in 1983 she obtained a Master in Business Law. The certificate of fitness as a lawyer (CAPA) was granted to her the following year. She joined the Paris Bar in 1985 and worked for several law firms. In 1987, on her return to Benin, Gbedo became the fifth woman to be called to the bar in her country. The Politics of Benin take place in the framework of a presidential representative democratic republic, wherein the President of Benin is both head of state and head of government, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the legislature. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.
