The Ministry of Justice ( el, Υπουργείο Δικαιοσύνης) is the ministry (government department), government department entrusted with the supervision of the civil law (legal system), legal and judiciary of Greece, judicial system of Greece. The incumbent minister is Konstantinos Tsiaras of New Democracy (Greece), New Democracy. It was founded as the State Secretariat for Justice () on 25 January 1833, and later known as the Ministry of Justice (Katharevousa: , Demotic Greek, Demotic: ). It was renamed the Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights ( el, Υπουργείο Δικαιοσύνης, Διαφάνειας και Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων) in October 2009 under George Papandreou, but was restored to its previous name in July 2019 by Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Eleftherios Veryvakis
Eleftherios Veryvakis () (21 January 1935 – 6 August 2012) was a Greek politician and ex-member of the Greek Parliament for the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK). In June 1967, during the military junta he was arrested and tortured for three months. Evangelos Venizelos
Evangelos Venizelos (, ; born 1 January 1957) is a Greek academic and politician who was Deputy Prime Minister of Greece and Minister for Foreign Affairs from 25 June 2013 to 27 January 2015. Previously, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of Greece from 17 June 2011 to 21 March 2012. He was a member of the Hellenic Parliament for the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) for the first electoral district of Thessaloniki. He is a Professor of Constitutional Law at the Law School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Anastasios Peponis ( el, Αναστάσιος Πεπονής; 1924 – 8 August 2011) was a Greek politician and author. Life He was born in 1924 in Athens, Greece. During the Axis Occupation of Greece in the Second World War (1941–44), Peponis was an active member of two resistance organizations: the Panhellenic Union of Fighting Youths (PEAN) and the National Coalition of Higher Education Institutions (ESAS), being involved especially in the underground press. After the war he studied law, and began practice in 1952. In 1951–52, during his studies, he was leader of the Youth Section of the National Progressive Center Union (EPEK). Anna Benaki-Psarouda (born 12 December 1934) is a Greek lawyer, New Democracy politician and academician. She was born in Exarcheia, Athens, and obtained her PhD from the University of Bonn. She joined the ''Athens Bar Association'' and taught law. In 1981 she entered into politics and in the 1990s became culture minister then Minister of Justice. Greek Left
Greek Left (, Elliniki Aristera, abbreviated EAR) was a Greek political party. It emerged, in January 1987, from the split in the Communist Party of Greece (Interior) into the Communist Party of Greece (Interior)-Renewing Left and the Greek Left. Its ideology was Eurocommunism. In December 1988 Greek Left signed a common report with the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) about the current political situation. This was the first step in the creation of Synaspismos, a coalition of parties, in February 1989. Fotis-Fanourios Kouvelis ( el, Φώτης-Φανούριος Κουβέλης; born 3 September 1948) is a Greek lawyer and leftist politician. Biography Kouvelis was born in Volos. He studied law and political science at the University of Athens.
