The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Energy (MENRE), is the regional executive department of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) responsible for affairs relating to the environment, natural resources, and energy in the region. History The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Energy (MAFAR) succeeded the regional office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the now defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. When the ARMM was succeeded by the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in 2019, the regional departments of the former ARMM were reconfigured into ministries of Bangsamoro. Abdulraof Macacua was appointed on February 26, 2019 by interim Chief Minister Murad Ebrahim as the newly reconfigured Bangsamoro department's first minister. Ahod Balawag Ebrahim (born 15 May 1949), better known as Al-hajj Murad Ebrahim, is a Moro Filipino politician and former rebel leader currently serving as the first chief minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Turtle Islands Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area in the municipality of Turtle Islands in Tawi-Tawi, Philippines. Background Together with three islands of neighbour country Malaysia and the surrounding coral waters, Turtle Islands are one of the world's few remaining major nesting grounds for the Green Sea Turtles. In 1996, the islands were declared as Turtle Islands Heritage Protected Area by the governments of the Philippines and Malaysia as the only way to guarantee the continued existence of the green sea turtles and their nesting sites. For the five islands, the Philippine government decided to create special protection zones, and within this zones, only scientific and conservation activities are allowed. Lake Lanao (Maranao: ''Ranao'' or ''Ranaw'') is a large ancient lake in the province of Lanao del Sur, Philippines. Liguasan Marsh is a marsh in the Mindanao River basin in the southern island of Mindanao, Philippines.
