Ministry Of East African Cooperation
The Ministry of East African Cooperation (MEAC) was a government ministry responsible for coordinating Tanzania's political, economic, military, social, and cultural relations with the other countries of the East African Community. The ministry was created in 2006 by Government Notice No. 1. Its offices are located in Dar es Salaam. The Minister for East African Cooperation is Samuel Sitta. The Ministry was merged into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation under John Magufuli John Pombe Joseph Magufuli (29 October 1959 – 17 March 2021) was the fifth president of Tanzania, serving from 2015 until his death in 2021. East African Community
The East African Community (EAC) is an intergovernmental organisation composed of seven countries in the Great Lakes region of East Africa: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the United Republic of Tanzania, the Republics of Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Uganda. Évariste Ndayishimiye, the president of Burundi, is the current EAC chairman. The organisation was founded in 1967, collapsed in 1977, and was revived on 7 July 2000. In 2008, after negotiations with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the EAC agreed to an expanded free trade area including the member states of all three organizations. Andrew John Chenge (born 24 December 1947) is a Tanzanian CCM politician and Former Member of Parliament for Bariadi West constituency from 2005 to 2020. Background After serving as Attorney-General, he was appointed as Minister of East African Affairs in the Cabinet named on January 4, 2006. He was then appointed as Minister of Infrastructure on October 15, 2006, retaining that post in the Cabinet named on February 12, 2008. He resigned on 20 April 2008 after it was revealed by UK's Serious Fraud Office that he holds US$ 1million (over 1 billion Tanzania shillings) in an overseas offshore account, allegedly as kickbacks from a controversial military radar deal between UK's BAE Systems and Tanzania government which he partly oversaw while serving as Attorney-General. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete (born 7 October 1950) is a Tanzanian politician who was the fourth president of Tanzania, in office from 2005 to 2015. Prior to his election as president, he was the Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1995 to 2005 under his predecessor, Benjamin Mkapa. He also served as the chairperson of the African Union from 2008–2009 and the chairman of the Southern African Development Community Troika on Peace, Defence and Security from 2012–2013.
