Minister Responsible For The Status Of Women (Manitoba)
The Minister responsible for the Status of Women () oversees the Status of Women Secretariat under Manitoba's Department of Families. Since 1982, the Executive Council of Manitoba has included a minister responsible for the Status of Women; however, the position is not a full cabinet portfolio and has always been held by a minister who holds other cabinet responsibilities. The current Minister is Rochelle Squires, who is also the provincial Minister of Families. Muriel Smith (politician)
Muriel Ann Smith, OC (born May 9, 1930) is a Manitoba politician. She ran for the leadership of the New Democratic Party of Manitoba in 1979, and subsequently served in the cabinet of NDP Premier Howard Pawley. Smith was born as Muriel Ann Lipsey, the daughter of George Cherry Lipsey and Mary MacDonald, at Britannia Beach, British Columbia, and was educated at the University of Manitoba and the Oxford Institute of Education, in Oxford, England. In 1952, she married Gordon Murray Rhodes Smith, son of former Manitoba Liberal politician Charles Rhodes Smith. She worked as a counsellor, served on the Human Rights Commission of Manitoba from 1974-78 and the Manitoba Action Centre on the Status of Women from 1975-76. Cathy Cox is a Canadian provincial politician, who was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba for the riding of River East in the 2016 election. Diane McGifford
Diane Ethel McGifford (born March 26, 1945) is a former Manitoba politician, and was a member of cabinet under Premiers Gary Doer and Greg Selinger. McGifford was born in Manchester, England, and moved to Manitoba at a young age. She was educated at the University of Manitoba, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970, a Master of Arts degree in 1974, and a Ph.D. in English in 1979. Rosemary Vodrey is a Canadian former politician in Manitoba, Canada. She was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1990 to 1999, and was a senior cabinet minister of the government of Gary Filmon. Bonnie Mitchelson (born November 28, 1947) is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. Charlotte Louise Oleson (May 17, 1932 – February 19, 2017) was a Canadian politician who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1981 to 1990, and a cabinet minister in the Progressive Conservative government of Gary Filmon from 1988 to 1990.
