Minister Of Intelligence Services (South Africa)
The Minister of State Security (formerly the Minister of Intelligence Services) was a Minister of the South African government, who oversaw South Africa's civilian intelligence agencies and national security matters. In 2021 the ministry was abolished and the function of the minister was taken over by the Presidency. Formation In 1994, the intelligence service affairs were subordinated to the Minister of Justice. In 1995, Joe Nhlanhla became Deputy Minister of Justice with responsibility for intelligence affairs. When Jacob Zuma was elected president in 2009 he renamed the post to Minister of State Security, but kept Siyabonga Cwele in the job. After the ANC election win in May 2014, Jacob Zuma announced the new Minister of State Security as David Mahlobo. The flag of South Africa was designed in March 1994 and adopted on 27 April 1994, at the beginning of South Africa's South African general election, 1994, 1994 general election, to replace the flag that had been used since 1928. The flag has horizontal bands of red (on the top) and blue (on the bottom), of equal width, separated by a central green band which splits into a horizontal "Y" shape, the arms of which end at the corners of the hoist side (and follow the flag's diagonals). National Intelligence Agency (South Africa)
The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) was the previous name of an intelligence agency of the South African government. Currently it is known as the Domestic Branch of the State Security Agency. It is responsible for domestic and counter-intelligence within the Republic of South Africa. The branch is run by a Director, who reports to the Director-General of the State Security Agency. The Director is also a member of the National Intelligence Co-Ordinating Committee (NICOC). Origins The NIA was formed in 1994, the same year South Africa's first multi-racial elections were held. It was created to take over from the domestic intelligence segment of the then National Intelligence Service (NIS) with the foreign intelligence functions being taken over by the South African Secret Service (SASS). Ronald Kasrils (born 15 November 1938) is a South African politician, Marxist revolutionary, guerrilla and military commander. He was Minister for Intelligence Services from 27 April 2004 to 25 September 2008. He was a member of the National Executive Committee (African National Congress), National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1987 to 2007 as well as a member of the Central Committee of the South African Communist Party (SACP) from December 1986 to 2007. Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki KStJ (; born 18 June 1942) is a South African politician who was the second president of South Africa from 14 June 1999 to 24 September 2008, when he resigned at the request of his party, the African National Congress (ANC). Before that, he was deputy president under Nelson Mandela between 1994 and 1999.
