History The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan was established in 1918, during the first Republic of Azerbaijan. In that period, Azerbaijan gained international recognition and built diplomatic relations with several countries. During the years of 1918-1920 there were operated representatives in Armenia, Georgia, Turkey, Turkistan, Mountainous republic and operated embassy and authorized representative offices, respectively in Iran and under Kuban and Don government. Jeyhun Aziz oglu Bayramov ( az, Ceyhun Əziz oğlu Bayramov) is an Azerbaijani politician who currently has served the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan since 2020. Elmar Maharram oghlu Mammadyarov ( az, Elmar Məhərrəm oğlu Məmmədyarov), born July 2, 1960) is an Azerbaijani diplomat who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan between 7 April 2004 and 16 July 2020. Vilayat Mukhtar oglu Guliyev ( az, Vilayət Muxtar oğlu Quliyev / , ; born 5 November 1952) is an Azerbaijani politician who was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan from 1999 to 2004. He was elected to the Azeri parliament in 1996 as a supporter of President Heydar Aliyev. Tofig Nadir oglu Zulfugarov ( az, Tofiq Nadir oğlu Zülfüqarov) (born in 1959) also spelled as Tofiq Zulfuqarov, is a politician from Azerbaijan. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan under Heydar Aliyev from March 1998 until October 1999 when he was replaced by Vilayat Guliyev. Hasan Aziz oghlu Hasanov ( az, Həsən Əziz oğlu Həsənov / Һәсән Әзиз оғлу Һәсәнов, born 20 October 1940) is an Azerbaijani politician and diplomat. He served as Azerbaijan's last communist leader, as its Prime Minister of Azerbaijan both during the Soviet rule and Azerbaijan's subsequent independence after the collapse of Soviet Union but eventually resigned.
