The Minister of Defence of Georgia ( ka, საქართველოს თავდაცვის მინისტრი) is the head of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, the governmental body of Georgia in charge of the Defense Forces of Georgia and regulating activities in defence of the country from external threats, preserving territorial integrity and waging wars on behalf of Georgia. The current minister is Juansher Burchuladze, who was appointed on February 22, 2021. The flag of Georgia ( ka, საქართველოს სახელმწიფო დროშა, tr), also known as the five-cross flag ( ka, ხუთჯვრიანი დროშა, tr), is one of the national symbols of Georgia. Originally a banner of the medieval Kingdom of Georgia, it was repopularised in the late 20th and early 21st centuries during the Georgian national revival. History The current flag was used by the Georgian patriotic movement following the country's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. By the late 1990s, the design had become widely known as the Georgian historical national flag, as vexillologists had pointed out the red-on-white Jerusalem cross shown as the flag of Tbilisi in a 14th-century map by Domenico and Francesco Pizzigano. Parmen Chichinadze
Parmen Chichinadze ( ka, პარმენ ჭიჭინაძე; 13 November 1881 – 30 September 1921) was a Georgian Social-Democratic politician and the Minister of War of the Democratic Republic of Georgia from November 1920 to February 1921. Born in the Georgian village of Godogani in the Kutais Governorate of the Russian Empire, Chichinadze was trained as a physician. He became involved in Marxist revolutionary activities and, as a member of the Menshevik faction, took part in the Russian Revolution of 1905. Chichinadze was persecuted by the Imperial government and exiled from Georgia from 1911 to 1915. During the Russian Revolution of 1917, Chichinadze was active in Rostov-on-Don, which he left for Georgia after the Bolshevik coup in October 1917. Irakli Okruashvili ( ka, ირაკლი ოქრუაშვილი) (born 6 November 1973) is a Georgian politician who had served on various important posts in the Government of Georgia under President Mikheil Saakashvili, including being the Minister of Defense from December 2004 until being dismissed in November 2006. In September 2007, Okruashvili staged a scandalous comeback to Georgian politics, openly confronting Mikheil Saakashvili and creating the opposition party Movement for United Georgia. David Tevzadze ( ka, დავით თევზაძე) (born 30 January 1949) is a retired Georgian lieutenant general who was the country’s Minister of Defense from April 1998 to February 2004.
