Minden High School serves 9th to 12th grade students in Webster Parish, Louisiana. The school in Minden, Louisiana was preceded by Minden Academy. It is part of the Minden School District. According to U.S. News the school's student body was approximately 55 percent African American and 42 percent white in 2020. History S. R. Emmons was principal in 1938. The Library of Congress has a photo of the school from the early 20th century. At one point in school history, the football team wore green and white and were known as the Greenbacks. Students who graduated from 1962 to 1966 were part of a study. Webster High School which served African American students was consolidated into it. Harlem Globetrotter Louis Dunbar graduated from Webster High. Athletics Minden High athletics competes in the LHSAA. Webster Parish School Board
Webster Parish School Board is a school district headquartered in Minden in northwestern Louisiana, United States. The district operates public schools in Webster Parish. The district is governed by an elected and compensated school board. Daniel R. Rawls begins duties as superintendent on January 7, 2014. In 2017, Johnny Rowland, Jr., was unanimously chosen by the school board as the superintendent to succeed Rawls. Jackie Moreland
Jack Wade Moreland, known as Jackie Moreland (March 11, 1938 – December 19, 1971), was an American basketball player for the Detroit Pistons and the former New Orleans Buccaneers. He played college basketball for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Background Minden High School At Minden High School, Moreland averaged 60 percent from the floor, 90 percent from the free throw line, and 21.3 points and 26 rebounds per game. He set a Louisiana state record for making 27 consecutive free throws in a row. As of 2011, Moreland's 5,030 career high school points still ranked as the fourth-highest total for a high school basketball player in the United States. Stepfret Williams III (born June 14, 1973) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals. Charley Hennigan
Charles Taylor Hennigan, Sr. (March 19, 1935 – December 20, 2017) was an American football player with the former Houston Oilers of the American Football League (AFL). Football career Hennigan attended LSU on a track scholarship but wanted to play football. He therefore transferred to Northwestern State University (then Northwestern State College) in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where he became the star of the team. In 1960, he joined the American Football League's Houston Oilers in the team's first year of operation. Prior to joining the Oilers, he had taught high school biology at a salary of some $2,700 per year. He kept his teacher pay stub in his helmet to remind him that he must succeed in pro athletics.
