Minden (ship)
The ''Minden'' is a ship built in 1985 as a lifeboat as one of a series of seven rescue cruisers (Seenotkreuzern, SK) of the Deutschen Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (DGzRS, German Sea Rescue Society) in the 23.3 Meter class. The ships were built between 1980 and 1991 by the Schweers shipyard in Berne-Bardenfleth and Abeking & Rasmussen in Lemwerder. Design details The hull of these ships is made of seawater-resistant aluminum, which was built in a net frame system. It is powered by two MTU V10 diesel engines with 2 turbochargers each and fully modulatable Twin Disc MG 530M Omega gearboxes, each of which drives a propeller. The total output is 1944hp. The cruisers are controlled from an upper open control point or from the lower control point in the deckhouse. A rescue lifeboat is a boat rescue craft which is used to attend a vessel in distress, or its survivors, to rescue crew and passengers. It can be hand pulled, sail powered or powered by an engine. German Sea Rescue Society
The German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (german: Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger - DGzRS, ; lit. ''German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked Persons'') is responsible for Search and Rescue in German territorial waters in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, including the Exclusive Economic Zone. The headquarters and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre of the Society are located in Bremen. It was founded in Kiel on 29 May 1865. It owns 60 lifeboats at 55 stations which are operated by 185 employed crew members and 800 volunteers. The society has about 2000 engagements every year. Up to 2019, it rescued approximately 85,000 persons. In 2019 it saved 81 lives, rescued 270 persons from critical situations and carried out 373 medical transports.
