Mind The Gap Theatre
The brainchild of Paula D'Alessandris, Mind The Gap (MTG) Theatre Company was conceived in 1998 to import edgy British productions, readings and workshops to New York audiences and, in return, export some of America's unknown theatrical talent to the United Kingdom. Featuring An Anglo-American repertory company of actors and writers, the New York City-based company maintains active ties to an assortment of British theatre agencies and has a literary staff that reads hundreds of new scripts each year. In 2001, Dame Helen Mirren and Dame Judi Dench joined MTG's Board of Advisors. In 2013 Dame Harriet Walter joined the board. The title is taken from a warning message frequently heard on the London Underground train system, where a voice reminds passengers to Mind the gap when alighting from the train; it also alludes to the gap between British and American theatre. Helen Mirren
Dame Helen Mirren (born Helen Lydia Mironoff; born 26 July 1945) is an English actor. Gary Owen (born 1972) is a Welsh playwright, and winner of the 2003 Meyer-Whitworth Award for new writing for the theatre. Career He was writer in residence at Paines Plough between 2001 and 2002, and was previously script editor at BBC Wales Drama (1998–2000). His plays have been performed around the United Kingdom from London to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and abroad as far as Canada, Australia and Germany – in which ''Crazy Gary's Mobile Disco'' was performed in German at Theater in Der Fabrik, Dresden in February 2003. His 2010 play ''Mrs Reynolds and the Ruffian'' was a nominee for the 2010 TMA Awards best new play. Mary Poppins (musical)
''Mary Poppins'' is a musical with music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman (the Sherman Brothers) and additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, and a script by Julian Fellowes. The musical is based on the similarly titled ''Mary Poppins'' children's books by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film, and is a fusion of various elements from the two, including songs from the film. ''The Phantom of the Opera'' is a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart, and a libretto by Lloyd Webber and Richard Stilgoe. Based on the 1910 French novel of the same name by Gaston Leroux, it tells the story of a beautiful soprano, Christine Daaé, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, masked musical genius living in the subterranean labyrinth beneath the Paris Opéra House. Stomp (stylized as ''STOMP'') is a percussion group, originating in Brighton, England, that uses the body and ordinary objects to create a physical theatre performance using rhythms, acrobatics and pantomime. History and performances 1990–98 Stomp was created by Steve McNicholas and Luke Cresswell in 1991. The performers use a variety of everyday objects as percussion instruments in their shows. Cresswell and McNicholas first worked together in 1981 as members of the street band Pookiesnackenburger and the theatre group Cliff Hanger. Together, these groups presented a series of street comedy musicals at the Edinburgh Festival throughout the early 1980s. After two albums, a TV series and extensive touring throughout Europe, Pookiesnackenburger also produced the "Bins" commercial for Heineken lager.
