Minatitlán Massacre
On the night of 19 April 2019 in the city of Minatitlán, Veracruz, Mexico, 14 people were killed, including a one-year-old baby, while they were celebrating a birthday party for a 52-year-old woman, when the assailants asked for "La Becky", the manager of a gay bar in Minatitlán and they started shooting. The state Secretary of Public Security, Hugo Gutiérrez, said that some of the participants in the attack had been identified and a search was under way. Investigators believe the shootout was a result of a turf war between the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and Los Zetas, two major criminal groups that operate in Veracruz. La Becky was paying protection to Los Zetas. Events At 9 pm, three men broke into a woman's 52-year birthday celebration in Minatitlán. Minatitlán, Veracruz
Minatitlán is a city in the List of states of Mexico, Mexican state of Veracruz. It is located in the southeastern part of the state, in the Olmeca Region, Olmeca region, to the north of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, along the Coatzacoalcos River. In 2010 the greater metropolitan area had a population of 356,020. Minatitlán is home to the ''Refinería Gral. Lázaro Cárdenas del Río'' (now named for President Lázaro Cárdenas) a 1906 oil refinery that was the first such facility built in Latin America. The refinery underwent an expansion that started in 2003 to bring the capacity of the plant up to 240,000 barrels per day, up from its previous capacity of 185,000 barrels per day. It is a sister city of Minatitlán, Colima, Minatitlán, in the state of Colima, on the other side of the country. The local economy is largely dependent on the oil industry and trade.
