Minardi PS04
The Minardi PS04 was a Formula One racing car of the Italian racing team Minardi, which was developed in autumn 2003, but was not used in any Formula One race in this form. Instead, the team contested the 2004 season with the Minardi PS04B, which was a completely separate construction and had no relation to the PS04. History The PS04 was not technically related to the Minardi PS01, PS02 and PS03 models developed and used between 2001 and 2003. Rather, it was largely identical to the Arrows A23 that the British Formula 1 team Arrows, which had since been dissolved, used in the 2002 Formula One World Championship for Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Enrique Bernoldi. After the insolvency proceedings against Arrows had been opened, the team's equipment was publicly auctioned off in early summer 2003. Minardi
Minardi was an Italian automobile racing team and constructor founded in Faenza in 1979 by Giancarlo Minardi. It competed in the Formula One World Championship from 1985 until 2005 with little success, nevertheless acquiring a loyal following of fans. In 2001, to save the team from folding, Minardi sold it to Australian businessman Paul Stoddart, who ran the team for five years before selling it on to Red Bull GmbH in 2005 who renamed it Scuderia Toro Rosso. Initially called "M" (short for Minardi) then a number, from 2001, all of Minardi chassis were called "PS", the PS being the initials of team owner, Paul Stoddart. During its time in F1, the team scored a total of 38 championship points; 16 of these were earned by the team's first driver, Pierluigi Martini. Minardi PS04B
The Minardi PS04B was a Formula One race car used by Minardi Cosworth in the 2004 Formula One season and the first 3 rounds of the 2005 Formula One season. Background In 2003 all of the Arrows A23 chassis and the full Arrows Grand Prix International intellectual property rights were bought by Minardi. The Arrows A23 was renamed the Minardi PS04 and in back-to-back tests it was found superior to the Minardi's PS03. Minardi however decided that they could not run a "pure-Arrows" and hence used the Arrows intellectual property, which included the new designs for a proposed Arrows A24 and the best elements from the PS03 and the Arrows A23/PS04 to develop the Minardi PS04B for the 2004 season. Arrows A23
The Arrows A23 is a Formula One racing car, used by the Arrows team during the 2002 Formula One season. It was designed by Mike Coughlan, Sergio Rinland and Nicolò Petrucci with engines supplied by Jaguar-works Cosworth customer rather than the Asiatech unit used in the previous year's Arrows A22. Arrows racing history The car was completely designed around Jos Verstappen, who had a contract to race for the 2002 season. However, due to financial problems the team replaced him with Heinz-Harald Frentzen on a race by race deal because he could bring more sponsorship money. Rinland designed the car around the twin keel concept he had perfected at Sauber. The A23 was introduced late and had very little pre season testing as a result. Paul Gerard Stoddart (born 26 May 1955) is an Australian businessman, airline owner and former Minardi Formula One team boss. Personal life Born in Coburg, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, and attended Preston Technical School and St Joseph's College Melbourne. Stoddart's first business was a car dealership. He was later based in England and was the Yugo car distributor for the UK and also had a hire car detailing business in Manchester detailing the ex-hire cars before sale to the public. Nicolas Kiesa (born 3 March 1978) is a Danish former racing driver of Italian descent. He participated in five Formula One Grands Prix in the 2003 season, scoring no championship points. The team, founded by former F1 driver Aguri Suzuki, was based in Tokyo, Japan, but operated from the former Arrows factory at the Leafield Technical Centre, Oxfordshire, England. Super Aguri SA05
The Super Aguri SA05 was the car with which the Super Aguri F1, Super Aguri team competed in the first half of the Formula One season. It originally was developed from the Arrows A23 designed in 2002 by Mike Coughlan and Sergio Rinland. The project was overseen by former Arrows engineer Mark Preston, who brought several other ex Arrows employees back with him. This was the first non-Brackley Honda-powered Formula One car since the Jordan EJ12 in 2002. Background Development The decision to use the A23 as the base chassis for the team's debut car was in part because the team was disallowed from using British American Racing, BAR's 2005 F1 car (BAR being Honda's predecessor team).
