Mimosa Rocks National Park
Mimosa Rocks is a national park in New South Wales, Australia, 329 km southwest of Sydney near the towns of Tathra and Bermagui. The park is close to Bournda National Park and forms part of the Ulladulla to Merimbula Important Bird Area, identified as such by BirdLife International because of its importance for swift parrots. Description Mimosa Rocks National Park starts at the northern end of Tathra Beach and runs north for about 16 km. The most recent addition to the park was the acquisition in 1999 of 260 acres subdivided from the Murrah Gardens Estate owned by the Hammond family, which includes the coastline of Bunga Beach and Goalen Head. It has five access roads from the Tathra-Bermagui main road. There are four main campsites in the Mimosa Rocks National Park; Gillards, Middle Beach, Aragannu, and Picnic Point. Bermagui is a town on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia in the Bega Valley Shire. It lies on the shores of the southern end of Horseshoe Bay. The name is derived from the Dyirringanj word, ''permageua'', possibly meaning "canoe with paddles". History A wharf was built in Horseshoe Bay in 1888 for the coastal trade. The port was serviced by the Illawarra and South Coast Steam Navigation Company. A 1910 article, "Bermagui – In a Strange Sunset", published by Henry Lawson in '' The Bulletin'' describes a steamer journey from Bermagui to Sydney. Ulladulla To Merimbula Important Bird Area
The Ulladulla to Merimbula Important Bird Area comprises a strip of coastal and subcoastal land stretching along the southern coastline of New South Wales, Australia. It is an important site for swift parrots. Description The 2100 km2 Important Bird Area (IBA), identified as such by BirdLife International, extends for about 250 km between the towns of Ulladulla and Merimbula and extends about 10 km inland from the coast. It is defined by the presence of forests, or forest remnants, of spotted gum and other flowering eucalypts used by the parrots. It includes forests dominated by ironbarks and bloodwoods which are likely to support the parrots in years when the spotted gums are not flowering. The swift parrot (''Lathamus discolor'') is a species of broad-tailed parrot, found only in southeastern Australia. The species breeds in Tasmania during the summer and migrates north to south eastern mainland Australia from Griffith-Warialda in New South Wales and west to Adelaide in the winter. The South Coast refers to the narrow coastal belt from Shoalhaven district in the north to the border with Victoria in the south in the south-eastern part of the State of New South Wales, Australia.
