Milton Historic District is a national historic district located at Milton, Sussex County, Delaware. It includes 188 contributing buildings and 1 contributing site in the central business district and surrounding residential areas of Milton. The district includes much of Union, Federal, Broad, Chestnut, and Mill Streets, and encompasses a wide variety of residential, commercial, and institutional buildings from the late-18th century to the early-20th century. Union, Broad and Chestnut Streets include many examples of Gothic Revival and vernacular building styles popular in the 19th century, while Federal Street is noted for larger homes that include many Second Empire, Queen Anne, and Federal style homes, as well as Gothic Revival and vernacular styles. Milton is a town in Sussex County, Delaware, United States, on the Delmarva Peninsula. It is located on the Broadkill River, which empties into Delaware Bay. The population was 2,576 at the 2010 census, an increase of 55.5% over the previous decade. It is part of the rapidly growing Cape Region and lies within the Salisbury, Maryland-Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area. Delaware Route 5 passes through Milton. History Located at the head of the Broadkill River, which enters Delaware Bay, the Milton area was first settled in 1675 by English colonists and founded as "Head of Broadkiln" in 1763. Sussex County, Delaware
Sussex County is located in the southern part of the U.S. state of Delaware, on the Delmarva Peninsula. As of the 2020 census, the population was 237,378. The county seat is Georgetown.
