Miltinho
Milton Santos de Almeida (January 31, 1928 – September 7, 2014), known professionally as Miltinho (Miltiño in Spanish), was a Brazilian singer of samba and bossa nova music. Early years Milton Santos de Almeida was born in Niteroi, Brazil a city with a lot of beaches belonging to the state of Rio de Janeiro located off the capital of Rio de Janeiro. He began his musical career in the forties integrating, along with other cariocas students, Cancioneiros do Luar group, who participated in the Tupi Radio program consecrated by Ary Barroso. Elza Soares
Elza da Conceição Soares ( née Gomes; 23 June 1930 – 20 January 2022), known professionally as Elza Soares (), was a Brazilian samba singer. In 1999, she was named Singer of the Millennium along with Tina Turner by BBC Radio. Elza was deemed dangerous by the Military dictatorship in Brazil (1964–1985), and in 1970 her house in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro, was machine-gunned by regime agents. Inside were her partner Garrincha and their children. The living room, where the young children were, was destroyed by the blasts. She and Garrincha had to flee to Italy, where they were received by Chico Buarque de Hollanda also in exile. OTI Festival 1979
The OTI Festival 1979 was the eighth edition of the annual OTI Festival. It was held in Caracas, Venezuela after decided in a draw. Organised by the Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI) and host broadcaster Venevisión, the contest was held at the National Theatre of the Military Academy on Saturday 8 December 1979 and was hosted by Eduardo Serrano and Carmen Victoria Pérez. In this edition in which the number of participating countries rose again to 21, Argentina won for the very first time the festival with the performer Daniel Ríolobos and his song "Cuenta conmigo" (Count on me). Background In the original rules of the OTI Festival the participating broadcaster of the winning country would organise the festival in the next year's edition, but in the previous festival those rules could not be applied due to the tough situation in Nicaragua, the winner country in 1977. Bolero Singers
Bolero is a genre of song which originated in eastern Cuba in the late 19th century as part of the trova tradition. Unrelated to the older Spanish dance of the same name, bolero is characterized by sophisticated lyrics dealing with love. It has been called the "quintessential Latin American romantic song of the twentieth century". Unlike the simpler, thematically diverse ''canción'', bolero did not stem directly from the European lyrical tradition, which included Italian opera and canzone, popular in urban centers like Havana at the time. Instead, it was born as a form of romantic folk poetry cultivated by a new breed of troubadour from Santiago de Cuba, the ''trovadores''. Pepe Sánchez is considered the father of this movement and the author of the first bolero, "Tristezas", written in 1883.
