Milt Smith (American Football)
Milton Bradley Smith (July 17, 1919 – August 5, 2010) was an American football player and business operator. Smith is best remembered as a college football left end who appeared with the UCLA Bruins in a 1943 Rose Bowl loss to the University of Georgia. Smith was later drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League and saw action in five professional games. During World War II Smith served as a Lieutenant in the United States Army, fighting on the European front, where he was severely wounded at the Battle of the Bulge. Smith was later the proprietor of Smith's Sporting Goods, located in Westwood, Los Angeles, California. End (American Football)
An end in American and Canadian football is a player who lines up at either end of the line of scrimmage, usually beside the tackles. Rules state that a legal offensive formation must always consist of seven players on the line of scrimmage and that the player on the end of the line constitutes an eligible receiver. Before the advent of two platoons, in which teams fielded distinct defensive and offensive units, players that lined up on the ends of the line on both offense and defense were referred to simply as "ends". The position was used in this sense until roughly the 1960s. Woodrow Wilson Woolwine Strode (July 25, 1914 – December 31, 1994) was an American athlete and actor. He was a decathlete and football star who was one of the first Black American players in the National Football League in the postwar era. After football, he went on to become a film actor, where he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in ''Spartacus'' in 1960. A halfback (HB) is an offensive position in American football, whose duties involve lining up in the offensive backfield and carrying the ball on most rushing plays, i.e. a running back.
