Milroy Paul
Major Milroy Aserappa Paul (20 January 1900 - 8 October 1988) was a leading Ceylonese surgeon. He was the first Professor of Surgery at the Ceylon Medical College and co-founder of the International College of Surgeons. Early life Paul was born on 20 January 1900. He was the eledet son of Dr S. C. Paul, a leading surgeon from Manipay in northern province of Ceylon. He had six brothers (William, Egerton, Albert, Jeyarajan, Arthur and Ellalasingam) and three sisters (Girlie Cooke, Amy Crosette-Thambiah and Tutse Rasaratnam). He was educated at Royal College, Colombo. He then went on to study medicine at Ceylon Medical College and King's College London from where he graduated in 1925 with MB degree and a Conjoint Diploma. Soon afterwards he gained the MRCP and FRCS qualification. Paul married his cousin Winifred Hanah Ponmani, daughter of Dr William H. Ponniah Kanagasabai, in 1926. They had one son – Wakeley. Lady Ridgeway Hospital For Children
The Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children is a tertiary care children's hospital in Colombo, Sri Lanka. With a bed-strength of over 900, it is now considered to be the largest children's hospital in the world. Established by public subscription in 1895 as the Lady Havelock Hospital for Women and Children, it was named the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in 1910. Both these distinguished ladies were the respective wives of successive British Governors in Ceylon - Sir Arthur Havelock and Sir Joseph West Ridgeway. Lady Ridgeway Hospital serves as the national referral center for pediatric care for Sri Lanka. Royal Air Force
The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's air and space force. It was formed towards the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918, becoming the first independent air force in the world, by regrouping the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS). Ceylon Defence Force
The Ceylon Defence Force (CDF) was established in 1910 by the Ceylonese legislation ''Ceylon Defence Force Ordinance'', which reformed the Ceylon Volunteer Force (CVF) that existed previously as the military reserve in the British Crown colony of Ceylon. At the time of forming it was only a reserve force but soon developed into a regular force responsible for the defence of Ceylon.
