Iowa Senate
The Iowa Senate is the upper house of the Iowa General Assembly, United States. There are 50 seats in the Iowa Senate, representing 50 single-member districts across the state of Iowa with populations of approximately 60,927 per constituency, . Each Senate district is composed of two House districts. The Senate meets at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. Unlike the lower house, the Iowa House of Representatives, Senators serve four-year terms, with no term limits. Terms are staggered so that half the Senate is up for reelection every two years. Leadership The President of the Senate presides over the body, whose powers include referring bills to committee, recognizing members during debate, and making procedural rulings. Arthur Gratias
Arthur L. Gratias (May 1, 1920 – March 6, 2015) was an American politician in the state of Iowa. Gratias was born in Nora Springs, Iowa. He attended Wartburg College and the University of Northern Iowa. He served in the United States Army during World War II, for which he received the Légion d'honneur in 2013. Gratias farmed for 23 years. His career in education included five years of teaching experience and four years as an elementary school principal. Gratias then served 22 years on the school board. He was a member of the Iowa Senate from 1979 to 1987, serving the Iowa Senate, District 7, 7th and Iowa Senate, District 15, 15th districts as a Republican. Allerton is a city in Wayne County, Iowa. The population was 430 at the time of the 2020 census. Geography Allerton is located at (40.707108, -93.367263). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. Allerton reservoir and Bob White State Park are located approximately three miles west of Allerton. Transportation Allerton was served by Iowa Highway 40 until it was turned over to Wayne County and made a county road. There is a network of paved farm to market roads starting in Allerton and connecting with the surrounding towns. Allerton was a division point on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad until the bankruptcy of the line in 1980. The old Golden State Route that ran east from Allerton through Seymour, Fairfield and Chicago was then abandoned.
