Milliken, Ontario
Milliken and Milliken Mills are neighbourhoods in the cities of Toronto and Markham. Milliken is situated in the north west section of Scarborough, whereas Milliken Mills is situated in the south-central portions of Markham. The neighbourhoods are centered on Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue, the latter street serving as the boundary between the cities of Markham and Toronto. A huge percentage of people own their homes, which are primarily single detached homes. As the homes were built when the farming left (1980s) there are many two storied houses with garage, typical of the time of building and affordability. History The area now called "Milliken" or "Milliken's Corner" was first settled in 1798 by Captain William Demont (Dumond). Norman Milliken settled in the area around 1807. IBM Canada Head Office Building
IBM Canada's head offices are currently located in Markham, Ontario and have been there since the early 1980s. The current building IBM occupies is located at 3600 Steeles Avenue East and was completed in 1995. IBM Canada's previous head office was located across the street at 3500 Steeles Avenue East (now Liberty Centre, Markham). The building rises from four floors on the west to seven floors at the east side. There is an underground ramp that is accessible from the left-most lane on east-bound Steeles Avenue that provides access to the building's parking area at the rear. Former head offices 1920-1980s Prior to the 1980s, IBM Canada was located in a sprawling complex at Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East. There are two main buildings at this site. Splendid China Tower
Splendid China Mall (Traditional Chinese: 錦繡中華; Simplified Chinese: 锦绣中华) (formerly known as Splendid China Tower) is a Chinese-themed ethnic shopping centre located at the southeast corner of Redlea Avenue and Steeles Avenue in the Scarborough district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is on the Scarborough side of Steeles Avenue (the other side is in Markham, Ontario). It is located adjacent to Milliken GO Station and across from the Pacific Mall along with the now closed Market Village. The structure was formerly occupied by Canadian Tire. Chinese language signs Scarborough's local sign bylaws limit the size a business may post signs in one singular language. The signs the centre has (in Chinese characters) taken up the permitted total wall acreage, so permission had to be sought to add an English sign. Remington Centre
Remington Centre () is an upcoming Chinese-themed mall to be built at the corner of Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue in Markham, Ontario, Canada, on the site of the former Market Village mall which closed on March 1, 2018. It will be connected to Pacific Mall by an indoor walkway. Market Village was scheduled for demolition and construction of the new mall which should have begun in the third quarter of 2013, but demolition began in October 2018.
