Millicent Preston-Stanley
Millicent Preston-Stanley (9 September 1883 – 23 June 1955) was an Australian feminist and politician who served as the first female member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. In 1925, she became the second woman to enter government in Australia. She was also among the first women in New South Wales to become Justices of the Peace and served as president of the Women Justices Association from 1923 to 1926. Throughout her life, Preston-Stanley advocated for women's rights, health reform, and temperance. In 1925, Preston-Stanley became the first female member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, representing the Eastern Suburbs as a member of the Nationalist Party, one of the historic predecessor parties to today's Liberal Party. ''A Clockwork Orange'' is a dystopian satirical black comedy novel by English writer Anthony Burgess, published in 1962. It is set in a near-future society that has a youth subculture of extreme violence. The teenage protagonist, Alex, narrates his violent exploits and his experiences with state authorities intent on reforming him. The book is partially written in a Russian-influenced argot called "Nadsat", which takes its name from the Russian suffix that is equivalent to '-teen' in English. According to Burgess, it was a ''jeu d'esprit'' written in just three weeks. ''Rabbit Romeo'' is a 1957 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon directed by Robert McKimson. The short was released on December 14, 1957, and stars Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. The film is one of the few pairings of Bugs and Elmer in which Bugs is not hunted throughout the entire picture (despite Elmer brandishing his hunting rifle every time Bugs tries to escape), and also notable as a cartoon in which Bugs has a romantic encounter. Amalasuintha (495 – 30 April 534/535) was a ruler of Ostrogothic Kingdom from 526 to 535. She ruled first as regent for her son and thereafter as queen on throne. A regent is "a person who governs a kingdom in the minority, absence, or disability of the sovereign." In Amalasuintha’s case it was the minority of her son Athalaric who was only 10 at the time of her father and King Theodoric’s death. Amy Millicent Sowerby (1878–1967) was an English painter and illustrator, known for her illustrations of classic children's stories such as ''Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'' and ''A Child's Garden of Verses'', her postcards featuring children, nursery rhymes, and Shakespeare scenes, and children's books created with her sister Githa Sowerby.
