Miller Place Historic District
Miller Place Historic District is a national historic district located at Miller Place in Suffolk County, New York. The district contains 27 contributing buildings. It encompasses a concentration of the rural vernacular architecture characteristic of Long Island from the mid-18th through late 19th century. They are largely 1- to -story, wood-frame dwellings sheathed in clapboard or wood shingles. Also included is the Miller Place Academy building. ''See also:'' The Historic District spans from the William Miller Homestead on North Country Road ( CR 20) at the west end, to just beyond the Vassilaros house, then turns northeast along Lower Rocky Point Road until it reaches Gully Landing Road to the east end. Miller Place is a Hamlet (New York), hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Brookhaven, New York, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, United States, on the North Shore of Long Island. Miller Place has been inhabited since the 17th century and is named for the Miller family that included many of its initial settlers. For most of its history, the community functioned as an agriculture-based society. Despite preserving much of its historic identity, changes in the 20th century have transitioned the hamlet into a desirable and densely populated suburban area. The population was 11,723 at the 2020 census.
