Millennium 88FM
Millennium 88FM was a temporary local radio service for Dublin operated by RTÉ from 1988 to April 1989 to mark 1988 at the year of the Dublin Millennium. The station broadcast from studios at the GPO Arcade in Dublin from 7am to 6pm daily. The studio was a short distance from where the first Irish radio station '' 2RN'' had begun broadcasting on 1 January 1926. Millennium 88FM broadcast on 88.0 MHz FM, and 1278 kHz (235 metres) on medium wave. Dublin
Dublin (; , or ) is the capital and largest city of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Declan Meehan (radio Presenter)
Declan Meehan ( ga, Déaglán Ó Míocháin) is an Irish radio presenter. Currently fronting ''The Morning Show'' with local radio station East Coast FM, his career has incorporated involvement with multiple pirate radio stations (including Radio Milinda, the first to be raided and prosecuted) and, later, RTE Radio 2 (where he was one of the pioneering station's original presenters). From there he moved to the superpirates of the 1980s, before a spell with legal radio in London, England. He is remembered for "presenting a cool and calm front". on the morning that Radio Nova was raided in May 1983. He had joined the station from Sunshine Radio. When Radio Milinda was threatened with closure in December 1972, Meehan declared on air in the week prior to the eventual raid, that they would "fight anybody who tried to close them down". Brian Jennings (journalist)
Brian Jennings is an Irish radio journalist and newsreader. He has been employed by RTÉ since 1988. Career Jennings began broadcasting on the pirate radio station Q102 in 1985. When the station closed down in 1988, he was part of the final broadcast. When Millennium 88FM opened to celebrated the first millennium in Dublin in 1988, he was a member of the news team. When the station closed down in 1989 he moved to Millennium 88FM's parent, RTÉ Radio. Jennings worked as journalist and newscaster for RTÉ 2fm. He then moved formally to RTÉ News and Current Affairs. He is currently the morning newscaster on RTÉ Radio 1, beginning at 5:30 am on RTÉ Radio, and on '' Morning Ireland''. Brian was also the associate producer of an RTÉ television film interview show, presented by Michael Dwyer, called Freeze Frame. It had a 3-year run. Atlantic 252
Atlantic 252 was an Irish longwave radio station broadcasting across Ireland and Great Britain on 252 kHz (1190 metres) from its 1988 purpose-built transmission site at Clarkstown radio transmitter, County Meath, which provided service to Atlantic 252 from 1989 until 2002. The station's studios were located 12 km (7 mi) away in Mornington House, Summerhill Road, Trim, County Meath. Atlantic 252 also had sales offices and studios at 74, Newman Street in London. After its closure, the station's former frequency and transmitter were used for the failed TEAMtalk 252 project which lasted for just a few months in 2002. From 2004, the frequency was used by RTÉ to provide a version of RTÉ Radio 1 to the expatriate community in Britain from the Clarkstown radio transmitter. East Coast FM (formerly known as BLB, Horizon FM, then East Coast Radio) is an Irish local radio station broadcasting from Bray, County Wicklow under a sound broadcasting contract from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland The station operates in County Wicklow and into the adjoining counties of Dublin, Kildare, Carlow and Wexford, broadcasting on the following frequencies: 94.9 FM, 96.2 FM, 99.9 FM, 102.9 FM and 104.4 FM in Arklow. FM104 is an independent local radio station broadcast across Dublin, Ireland, on the frequency 104.4 MHz. It is operated by Capital Radio Productions Limited (unconnected with, and not to be confused with, Capital Radio plc), and is a subsidiary of the Wireless Group, which itself is a subsidiary of News UK. The station broadcasts under a contract from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. FM104 broadcasts from Macken House in Dublin's Docklands. Today FM is an Irish national commercial FM radio station, owned and operated by Bauer Audio Ireland Limited. Broadcasting since 17 March 1997, it broadcasts mostly music, with a daily news and current affairs programme. Today FM holds a licence from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland as far as the year 2027.
