Millbrook, Victoria
Millbrook is a rural district in the state of Victoria, Australia, located north west of Melbourne. It was formerly called "Moorabool" but the name was changed to avoid confusion with a locality near Geelong. The name "Millbrook" was adopted because of a flour mill erected by Matthew Butterly on the West Moorabool creek. At the time of the 2016 census, Millbrook had a population of 156 down from 550 in 2006, partly reflecting changing boundaries. The soil is volcanic and well-adapted to cereals, potatoes and grazing. The landscape is undulating and preserves remnants of the original open forest. The West Moorabool creek runs through the district. The earliest inhabitants of the area were the Wathaurong, and the Irish were prominent among its European settlers in the mid-19th century. Millbrook, also known as Millbrook Village, is an unincorporated community located along Old Mine Road within Hardwick Township, formerly Pahaquarry Township, in Warren County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Millbrook is a heritage-listed detached house at 9 Phillip Street, East Toowoomba, Toowoomba, Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1860s to 1900s. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 27 April 2001. History Millbrook is a large timber dwelling capped with a high pitched, hipped galvanised-iron clad roof. It has a U-shaped verandah, broken at the front by a gable pediment over the entrance lobby and a gabled attic room facing the road. The house was probably built on Ruthven Street in the 1860s as the family home of William Henry Groom. Following his death his widow moved it, in 1902, to Phillip Street. Convicted of stealing, thirteen-year-old William Henry Groom was transported to New South Wales in 1849. In 1854 and 1855 he was charged with gold stealing, the first time he was acquitted but the second time he was imprisoned. The Hitchcock Estate in Millbrook, New York is a historic mansion and surrounding grounds, associated with Timothy Leary and the psychedelic movement. It is often referred to in this context as just Millbrook; it is also sometimes called by its original name, Daheim. The (or ) estate was purchased in stages by assembling five farms, beginning in 1889, by German-born acetylene gas mogul Charles F. Dieterich (1836–1927), a founder of Union Carbide. In 1912 Addison Mizner designed the four-story 38-room mansion which Dieterich named "Daheim" ("Home"). Featuring turrets, verandas, and gardens, the late-Victorian mansion has been described architecturally as Queen Anne style or Bavarian Baroque.
