Mill Creek Community School Corporation is a public school district in Hendricks County, Indiana. History The formation of the Mill Creek Community School Corporation is the result of the 1964 consolidation of Clay, Franklin, and Liberty Township schools. Until that time, there was a friendly but heated rivalry that existed among the Amo, Clayton, and Stilesville High Schools. The consolidation of the township schools located in Amo, Belleville, Cartersburg, Clayton, Coatsville, Hazelwood, and Stilesville produced a higher quality education system, but also resulted in a loss of the history that was a significant part of the former schools and their associated towns. When first consolidated, elementary schools in Amo, Clayton, Hazelwood, and Stilesville were organized. Coatesville, Indiana
Coatesville is a town in Clay Township, Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 523 at the 2010 Census. History Coatesville was founded in the late 1860s. It was incorporated as a town in 1909. A gas station was opened in downtown Coatesville in the early 1900s. By 1958 it was operated by Standard Oil. At one time, Coatesville had three gas stations, but as of 2020 it has none. The location of the town's first gas station has been renovated into a replica of the Standard Oil station as it would have looked in the late 1950s. On March 26, 1948 (Good Friday) a tornado destroyed most of the town, killing 14 residents. Damage and fatalities were widespread across west-central Indiana, and overall, 20 people perished. Clayton is a small town in Liberty Township, Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 972 at the 2010 census, up from 693 at the 2000 census. History In 1829 a little town in Liberty Township was named "Clayville", honoring Henry Clay, the Kentucky statesman. In 1835, Clayville consisted of ten houses and 43 people. The Town of Clayville was platted in 1851 by George W. Wills. The name was changed to "Clayton" in 1858 because another Clayville already existed in Dubois County. The first two houses in Clayton were built by Thomas Potts and Lewis T. Pounds, and Parker & Foote was the first store.
